Yeah no... I fall asleep by 9 and wake up at 5.
Actually, that's only after my 3rd day. On my 1st/2nd in a row 9-3 or 9-4 is fine. But on that third day I'm shot.
I have night shift personality with a day shift body
It's been better lately though. Working 2 jobs and working 48-60 a week has conditioned me a little bit.August 2023:

I'm probably going to make an appointment to go see a counselor, but I thought I would ask here too. I'm going to finish all of my CC's prerequisites and all of the transfer/GE classes after fall 2016 (so I'll be done by basically mid December). The problem is my CC takes applications to the program twice a year, September for spring and April for fall. I would have to basically wait 4 months after the fall semester to apply (might not even get accepted because local CC's all use a lottery system) and wait a total of like 8 or 9 months for the fall semester to start if I do get accepted. I just checked out the website for one of the universities here that had an 86% NCLEX pass rate in 2014 and it says for Fall 2015 the application deadline was January 5th, 2015. Should I consider applying to that program first, taking out a loan if I get accepted, and going there straight to a BSN instead? (The university is 23 miles from my house so the commute would be like 40-60 minutes due to traffic). If I decide to apply for that university I will only have from like Dec 20 to study for the TEAS V and take/pass it so I don't think I would be able to do all that before the deadline though.

I say do the uni, commute isn't horrible and no one is hiring ADNs anymore, you need the BSN. Also sounds more merit based than the lottery system so your chances of getting in are stronger. If you went the CC route you'd take the two years for an ADN and then still pay a ton of money for a BSN program, be it online or an accelerated BSN program and that would cost you another 20-30k.

I was planning on doing a RN-BSN program at CSUN that will only be 1.5 years, 2 years max and it will total like 15k or under for the two years. Even if I decide to try for the university, can I even study for and take the TEAS V in like 2 weeks and get the results in time to apply by the deadline? (which will probably be the first week of January again, this year it was Jan 5).
edit: The main problem is no matter what even if I transfer to a public university or private school I will still be applying for the Fall 2017 program since I finish my prerequisites and GE classes after Fall 2016 (will finish like Dec 20, 2016) and will be out of school for like 8 months until the fall semesters starts if I get accepted. Fml this is going to take way longer than I thought it was going to, I didn't realize until now that I couldn't just apply and start the spring right after I'm done because of application deadlines months before.Last edited by arman24; 09-08-2015 at 05:50 PM.

I thought I'd give everyone an update about my ICU position and would appreciate feedback. I interviewed for both MSICU and CVICU. I got offered the MSICU job. I turned it down because 1.) I was still waiting on a decision from CVICU, which is what I really want, and 2.) their acuity was reportedly slightly higher than my progressive unit, but nothing impressive - occasional vents. The manager was on vacation all of last week and returned just this past Tuesday. Would it be rude to ask when a decision will be made? It has been three business days as of today that has gone by. She did tell me she was going to take her time and try to find the perfect fit, but I also want to take a proactive role.
Sticklegs/rabbitw00t, a peds CVICU opening just came up. Should I yolo and apply? Lol.Last edited by guyman123; 09-09-2015 at 04:30 PM.

Crazy. Here you need an ICU certificate which you aren't even eligible for for two years. ER you can get into out of school, but it's rare.
Glad I'm on an ortho floor for my first job tbh. Medical patients get put here fairly often so I'm getting that experience, but at least it's still an easy transition into working compared to other floors.

Turned 22 three months ago I've been a nurse for a little over a year now. I took college classes while I was in high school so I was able to get into nursing school earlier than most people. I would love to place a bet that I'm the youngest RN in my hospital. No brag. I was the youngest in my nursing cohort and still so on my floor.

But as a BScN think how the job opportunities. I'm Canadian but live on the border of Detroit, they are so desperate for the BScN that basically anyone from my graduating class was hired on the spot to work across the border, and they paid for the cost of getting the work visa. If you have the chance to get the full BScN then do it, you won't regret it.

bro's need your opinion. Now that i have passed boards, your boi is looking for employment. My classmate can hook me up with a 9-5 clinic job no weekends at clinic working as a float. most of it is procedure prep( surgery prep, cath insertion, gong to surgery and assting docs), minor teaching, minor meds. sounds chill but i feel like i won't get the critical thinking aspect of working in a hospital (depends of what floor). In order for me to get a hospital job, id have to relocate 45 min away to a city that's not Seattle, I only have my ADN so my options are limited. Would working in a hospital right away benefit me in the long run? I'm thinking yes.

That's a load of crap. Your entire post is, actually.
GCU online BSN is 16.8k out the door. WGU is more like 10-12k. University of LA Lafayette is like $6k-$8k,
Getting a job out of RN school is about networking, not initials after your name.
And I'm only half an hour south of you. This isn't a regional thing.
The correct answer is to apply to both, but the ADN route is cheaper and more efficient. Get ADN, get job, use tuition reimbursement to pay for $2k-$6k of your education (depending on where you work), BSN becomes even cheaper than the prices I've mentioned.
A hospital isn't going to seek you out to employ you. Your time in RN school is your opportunity to network and set up connections for employment after NCLEX is passed.August 2023:

This is true, and sometimes you get really lucky. The chick I mentioned above was on the nurse tech float pool while in nursing school like I was. She went to a job fair, met the director of the heart division at my hospital who recognized her, and scored a job in the CVICU. Now I'm stuck here fukken mirin.
