I've been working on a script for a little under a year, and I was wondering if I should take it to a producer because I would like to be signed on as the Director, It's almost complete it's in the last act, and I want to start filming it in 2014. I invision making it independently then sending it to film festivals were hopefully I can find a distributor.

They won't let you direct if you have no experience. Your script will go over a ton of rewrites anyway, especially if they can cut out expensive scenes. Best bet is to talk with the director or something.
If you are interested in directing or want to learn more about it. I suggest reading "Directing Actors" by Judith Weston. It's widely viewed as the bible for directing actors*** Canadian Crew ***

I also forgot to mention my back up is, if I can't find a someone interested in producing it, my mom says she knows how to get financing for it. So I guess if my plan does'nt work out I'm going to see if she can get someone to finance it( It's a pretty cheap movie) when I get it copy righted I would like someone on here's feedback on the movie.

That's why I'm working on reel, I understand that they probabily won't let me direct a film without at least showing that I have some knowledge on cameras, lighting.. etc But I'm working on it, I'm going to be taking some classes, I plan on getting a certificate from the Boulder Digital Arts institute . I just need the technical knowledge. And my mom says she will worry about the financial side. It's a pretty cheap movie to make, so if I can find a distributor it will make a profit

Yes but no ones read the rewrite I've done on it quite yet. I'm not trying to sound cocky or anything. ( just really think this could be a good movie. And I thought once I was further along on the process I would havfe it copywritten and I would let some people in this thread read and give me feedback
