Jackson Deep Dish 35 LB Plates

I found these on CL several years ago. I bought the pair, two pairs of 45 lb standard olympic plates and an olympic plate holder for $50. They're currently painted OD green. I plan to paint them flat black in due time.

Sweet plates. Respect them! Andy Jackson was a master of iron!
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Dictionary.com says "representing the high quality of a past time: vintage cars; vintage movies. " or in our case "vintage weights".

I think that we are referring to when the weights were made in the good ole USA, but I'm not sure.

You know, I asked myself about how to define "vintage" when I started this thread. I think of it as pretty much anything more than 20 years old, but if someone posted a picture of something really cool that was made yesterday in this thread, I certainly wouldn't give them a hard time about it! If you have something to show off, go for it! This wouldn't be the first time that a thread went a little off track, now would it?

Can anyone enlighten me on this bumper plate? It almost looks like a deep dish but with rubber on the outside?

Here's one that I have, which looks much different (no spokes, hub is flat and wide)

Great thread. When I get up to 50 posts I'll post some pictures of my York stuff.

I really wish there was a detailed timeline with images of York production for plates, bars, barbells, collars, etc so people could better identify their stuff and the era its from.

Yeah, I'd have thought something like that would exist by now. There really isn't all that much info about York history out there in the internet - at least not in a central organized location - unless I just haven't found it. Also, the Wikipedia article for York sucks too. I'd post more about it if I know enough, but I'm still learning and I find that I have to pick up little bits of info along the way from myriad sources.

Yeah, I was kind of hoping that this thread would become a sort of repository for exactly that kind of information--maybe not an actual timeline, but enough bits and pieces of information that people would be able to piece it all together without too much trouble. It's a little early to say whether that will be the case or not. On the bright side, look at some of the information that we have already collected--I believe we have pictures of some York plates from the 30's, which you NEVER see, and some from the 50's, which you only see rarely. With a little luck, AttyGuy will show up soon to help answer the questions about JackBravo's bumper plates. We have a few pics of some Hofmanns and Jacksons as well. We are off to a good start!

I recently saw some York Barbell standard plates without the size on them. Only had York Barbell on them. In what year did they start putting the size on them? 1940's??

Some one had previously mentioned the site called "Iron History", where there is a ton on info and a lot of hard core collectors (or hoarders, depending on your perspective!!). It sounds like you could find out a lot more historical info about York and the other brands there. But be aware that they have a 100 post requirement (similar to the 50 post here) before you can get access to the forums that talk exclusively about vintage weight equipment.

Just from what I've read about other people's experiences with that site, I'm not even going to sign up. I went to that site and apparently you cant even view those forums. If I ever hit 50 posts here I'll post pictures and info on what little York stuff I have. I think we should start a parallel and more open information exchange here.

IH is a good site, but reaching 100 posts is going to take a long time for me, lol. This forum hasn't been hard posting to, because of the subject matter and all of the great characters doing the posting . Stay awhile and you'll hit 50 posts quickly.

For anyone interested in some of the older plates, go to the middle of this website and there's a video with a bunch of older plates on display including Yorks and Jacksons.

Thanks for part II, I wonder if he's in the process of selling it all or just getting rid of overflow.

    Overflow???? What is that????

He is probably a dealer AND a collector. He says he found a lot at scrap yards and who goes to scrap yards if you are getting rid of 'overflow'???

Guessing he is in Jersey? Check the collectible iron auctions on EBay for someone in that area.

Anyone that buys alot of equipment knows that you have to large lots to get what you want at, selling the overflow off.

Being from Jersey originally, I guessed that (him being from Jersey when he metioned Metuchen originally, but mentioning Jersey City really sealed the deal. I'm guessing that you are also from Jersey or you'd call it NEW Jersey, .

Nobody in Jersey says "joisey", that's a NY accent, and not many factories left in Jersey. But, Springsteen's first two albums were definitely his best. Reps for the quote.
