What's the going rate for a pair of milled 45's in this market? I dont really need them right now, but all my plates are a mix of modern and milled Yorks, so it would be a PITA if I ever had to switch plates to something with a non matching diameter. Seller is asking $180 for this pair. He indicates they have no cracks but were "pretty rusty" a year ago when he acquired them and he cleaned them up with 3-in-1 oil.

Agreed. And between Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and eBay, there is a fairly large range of prices.

But IMO, some of that is convenience. You can pay a large price on eBay instead of tracking down and driving out to some far flung place to pick up some rusty treasure.

I prefer not to paint weight plates and dumbbells. I remove rust and add some oil. Done.

I have found a couple dumbbells and plates, I'd normally pick up, but they've been painted. Is revealing the original paint beyond hope?

And if so, what's the easiest way to remove the black spray paint and just get them down to bare metal without access to any fancy equipment?

I thought they were early unnumbered Yorks. I'd just read the York History Google Doc from this thread (thanks, it's awesome). But the 21.8 lb weight is odd. There are four identical plates, and they all weigh 21.8 pounds each.

21.8 lb is 9.89 kg. Are these unnumbered 10 kg plates? In the York History doc there are only numbered 10 kg plates. Did someone else make these?

Any info/help is appreciated!

Thanks. Was pretty excited to do it. Gives me globes 5 to 80 in 5 lb jumps. I have 1 to 16 in 1 lb jumps.

Next is 85 90 95 to find

Man, I'd agree with you. Everything is pointing to these being unmarked 10 kg plates, but there's no documentation of York making those. Perhaps another company rented the molds from York to make these KG versions. What do the backs look like?

It's possible that they are unmarked York Kg plates, but it's also possible that they are Golden Team Kg plates.

I unfortunately don't have a picture of the backs, but they aren't milled. Small casting flaws, not machined.

Is there anything stamped on there? You'll have to look really close.

I agree, also prefer my plates to not be painted. The plates I find are usually hideously painted. I just did some today. I used paint remover from hd. Works ok and then wire wheel since there is usually a lot of rust under the paint. Good luck

I recommend everyone paint their plates and dumbbells in high gloss black paint. Keep it classy my friends!

I actually do the opposite since every plate I buy has been repainted (being vintage) and most people have no idea what to do and paint over rust turns out to be quite hideous.
I remove the paint, wire wheel and oil them. Looks absolutely the best in my opinion 😉

My thought was that they were unbranded Ivanko's, there is no M stamped on the back by the hub. There is a B stamped underneath 'Standard'.

I think you are correct. Nice plates, I picked up 4 of them from PIAS for someone pre pandemic. Wish I had just keep them.

Agree, if they are accurate and the tolerances are tight around the bar I'd say unbranded Ivanko for sure.

urbanlifter and EricAtl, thank you very much! I was able to pick up 6 at $.75/lb. I couldn't see it in person but now that I'm looking at the picture I took of these I think it has Taiwan stamped in the hub as well. Any ideas on the date/era of these?

I'm gonna try to liven up the place. Here are some deep dish Billard 45s. Pretty "vanilla" as far as deep dish go. Right at 1.75" thick, which seems to be average.

It's that day again! The "eagle head" Schisler plates are a bit shorter than the standard Schisler plates (posted last week) coming in at a hair over 1.5". Is it still deep dish? Maybe, same as Ivankos at least. But it's definitely not hub-able.
