I have a set of Dan Lurie dumbbells like in the picture. Are they from one of his gyms or were they sold to the public ? They are made with small plates with welded end caps like in the picture.

Complete luck. It was attached to the bottom of a roulette wheel in a flea market in Rancho Cucamonga.

That is crazy. Great find. Hard to believe the holy grail of weight plates would end up on a roulette wheel.

Those are cool. Definitely collectable not necessarily worth a lot. I'd buy if cheap.

DURNIT!!! I missed your reply. I suspect they are collectible but, was looking for more info on the company that made them. When I lived in Houston, I took this plate to six foundries and all the gyms hoping for information. It's like this thing beamed down from outer space all by itself.

I had around 90 lbs of these that came with a set I bought in '89 or '90. I sold them 5-7 years ago for $0.30-0.40/lb. Given the recent price increase for plates, $0.50/lb isn't bad if you're looking for standard size plates.

I finally striped the paint on the colorful dumbbells. I purposely did not let them soak in chemical too long to try to create a distressed look. I like how they turned out. My Jackson dumbbell set now consists of pairs of 5s to 10s in one pound increment; pairs of 12s and 15s; pairs of 20s through 75s in five pound increment; and pairs of 90s, 100s, 120s, 125s and 150s. All from the 25 pounds and above are named (i.e., labeled "Jackson") except for the 90s, 120s and 150s, but the 150s came from world champion Enrique Hernandez so they are special to me.

So to complete my set, I can use 80s, 85s, 95s and 110s. Also, 90s and 120s to replace the waxed out ones. Would appreciate any leads anyone has.

Was looking for something else and found these and bunch of other York stuff.

Loving these . Fits on the 50's bar very well unlike Billard Olympic plates.

Believe, I am the second owner. The previous one did took care of his iron. He did paint all the letters and numbers on all his plates with white paint. The black paint has a slight texture to it and gives you little grip.

All I had to do was wipe the dust of and oil them with a rag.

Really nice. I always wanted a pair of these!

Which vintage deep dish plates do people consider to be the best (quality and consistency of castings, accuracy, most attractive)? I know this is subjective, but curious if there is any consensus.

That Jackson 1A set at the top is my most sought after iron. Been looking for a set for years.

All those poor vintage barbells on the racks fully loaded and getting warped over time, so sad....

The owner should use those weights, can you imagine having enough deep dish York's to use as your daily drivers?

Pretty much. Just very well made deep dish plates.

I used both Yorks and Jackson’s when I visited Frenchie’s Gym in Brooklyn a few years ago when I was in NYC for a wedding.

Those new Rogue deep dishes look to be calibrated super well if you’re looking for quality, usable deep dishes.

Saw those and they do look pretty good, but no I have plenty of weights. I have actually been trying to reduce my collection, but trying to decide what I want to keep or if there is something special that I want to try to acquire.

I think the Jacksons will be too difficult to find and too expensive even if I did.

I just did a search on eBay for some vintage deep dishes. WOW, been quite a while since I had looked at prices. Things have gotten expensive!

I have both Jacksons and Yorks, Jacksons are so much nicer imo. I have a very Accurate scale, and 1 Jackson 45lb weighs 45 on the spot whereas the other weighs 44.156 (44lbs 15.6 ounces), I can take some close up comparisons of both tomorrow if you'd like. As far as pricing, the last pair sold on ebay for like $2k+ not too long ago, so yeah they're expensive.
