I like it but I don't like the seat moves with the weight bar. I prefer that to not move, it works the calves better. I had one where it did move and it was inferior to the one I still have that does.

I think I've only used the ones with the moving seat. There wasn't much else available in my area except a Powerline. I'm not sure if I'm keeping it or flipping it... or keeping it until I flip it. The upholstery and padding are real nice compared to what I'm used to at home... I really need to upgrade my bench from the ironmaster to a commercial bench... Are you keeping that Nebula?!?!

This calf machine didn't come from Magnum acquisition. It's original Matrix from their Aura series. Matrix is a devision of Johnson Health Tech, a Taiwanese company.

A lot of people say that around here, may be a bit of bro science. I had a promaxima seated calf where the seat moved and it was one of the best I've ever used. I've gone through about a half dozen calf machines over the last 6 years and I miss that promaxima lol

The biggest thing I look at on a calf machine is the placement and angle of the foot pad. Most machines aren't designed for those of us with long legs

I like that it has pillow bearings. The typical brass bushings on calf machines wear out from all the torque they get.

I had 2 identical ones and the only difference was one where the seat moved and one where it did not. the one where the seat moved was easier for the same amount of weight. if my informal test was bro science then what is this thread?

really happy with my purchase, the rack is solid, probably weights a good 500lbs (it's in 2 parts), all welded, not a "buy in a box and build it" rack

The amount of weight needed changes depending how far the plates are loaded from the knee pad, the closer the weight horn, the more weight needed.

I picked up some nice camo cargo shorts from Wal Mart today for $5

I used to use similar but they were cut offs - I hope this fit similarly because they are so much more comfortable than nylon shorts for lifting.

Not what I'd call a deep dish, but somewhat of a dish. I've seen them at the local play it again before. In fact I think they have a few pair there now.

I got two of RumbleRoller's new products recently, a Beastie Bar and some Beastie Balls. I did a complete write up here:

I was not sure if i wanted the rubber ones but glad i grabbed them as well.. They were used in a private gym i believe the iron ones were only left on a leg press. Think i am done for plates for now.. not sure how many pds i have.. alot more than i need but its all good.. will take some pics of the rubber ones on my new obs-20kg when it gets here..

The red 45s are not as red in person as they look in the picture but the blue and yellow look like they do in the pic. Not sure if Ivanko had issues with the red fading or not coming out as good as they should. These reds are less than 2 yrs old and used in a basement gym so not in a sunny environment.

Did you get those in St. Catharines? I've been out to a warehouse there a few times where a guy acts as a liquidator and cleans out failed gyms. He had plates like that for $1/lb last time if I recall, and some very similar looking cemco's. I've never actually grabbed anything. He did have some Ivanko pro style DB's I was after but the wanted way too much per/lb.

I took the calf raise apart so that I could carry it down the stairs and saw that it pivots on two sleeve bearings. I don't know much about sleeve bearings and pillow bearings. I assume both types of bearings are better than a bushing though. The Matrix Aura series retails for around $1300 and I think the Matrix Magnum series is even more expensive. It seems well built and is a GIANT leap in quality beyond the low end Powerline that was also on CL for about the same price. There aren't many used commercial pieces that pop up in my area so I'm glad that I grabbed it.

I'm on the hunt for a commercial seated calf too. I had a chance to grab a hammer strength unit but it was too pricey and too big.

OK I know most people here are expert bodybuilders or at least would like to think of themselves as such. People that pay top dollar for the best equipment and a lot of weight. Well, I'm really just a beginner, I have a small frame and only want to work on toning up, not any bulking up or anything.

    Here's what I bought:

    http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Powe.../dp/B003UO1DLS - Universal Power-Pak 445 Adjustable Dumbbells
    http://www.amazon.com/Universal-by-N.../dp/B002QJZAE4 - Universal Five-Position Adjustable Bench
http://www.amazon.com/Iron-Gym-Total.../dp/B001EJMS6K - Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar
    http://www.amazon.com/Stamina-Foldin.../dp/B0012MEZKG - Stamina Fold-to-Fit Equipment mat

    What do you think? thanks
