i think there was an unusually high number of that kind of thing... if you watch the old olympics the commentators always talk about lifters who are injured, or have had to pull out, and it doesn't seem like they really mention a lot of the top level lifters very often

Yeah I counted 12 medal contenders/champion favorites either pulling out, bombing out or getting injured on the platform.
