Side note... And stupid question I'm sure... but those aren't 45 pound plates in the pictures is it? If so that makes for a 400 pound squat. And I'm sure Arnold did more than that. Are those 60's or what?

Why should he be squatting more than 405lbs? A picture doesn't tell us if he's in the middle of a set of 5, 8, 12, 15, 20...

Not saying he should be doing more. Just those seem quite large compared to the 45's I picturing from my gym. I know Arnold was beast so just wondering if those were larger than 45's. Just makes the feat that much more incredible if it was.

I have tried deadlifting in socks, I think the biggest difference might be that it drops you an an extra inch or two. Never tried it with squats, but I don't feel unstable so not sure it would help.

Worth trying, don't really see how it can hurt.

depends on the floor of your house or gym i guess.

i workout at home and our floor is kinda slippery wearing socks could make me slip, and with bear foot it will be cold. so i i like doing it with shoes

Vibram five fingers are the best. But I work out in my garage gym, so I don't have to be actually seen in public with them on.

Deadlifting barefoot is a very good idea as it reduces ROM by the height of the sole, Enough to break a plateu

I have been squatting barefoot for the last two years. Just two days ago I squatted with flat non compresable shoes for the first time in years. My calves are sore from stabalizing. I squat very wide, when pushing my legs apart, the legs tend to tip over the sides... Perharps it is just a matter of getting used to it, but felt much better barefoot.

If it wasn't for that personal trainer threatening to cancel my membership.... bastard.

Squatting w no shoes allows more surface space for Your feet to cover. Allowing you to push with Your whole foot w out shoe padding getting in the way. This is how Your supposed to do it. This is why you see Squat power lifters wearing flat bottom shoes w no padding.
It also allows you to drive the weight up w Your heels

I been squatting barefoot now for 8 months, love it. I wore my nikes to squat one and the air bubble pops. I will never go back to wearing shoes unless I have to go to a commercial gym. I also deadlift barefoot too.
