what kind of grip do you guys use for Decline? I am looking for an exercise that doesn't stress the shoulder on my secondary upper body day. I haven't tried decline in forever, but in the past it hurt my shoulder. The decline isn't quite as steep as yours but I am thinking maybe my grip was the problem.

Wade will give you the full answer when he's done squatting this morning I'm sure, but it's a close grip. I think he and the others do pinkies on the rings. For me, since pinkies on rings is my current "normal grip," he has me even closer.
He will also encourage you to raise the angle on the decline. If you notice in my videos, I actually prop up my decline with a box to get the correct angle.

I got about 2 hours of sleep and being sick, I coached and didn't lift...
That being said, Jerm is spot on. Raise the angle, close grip and touch low and really engage the traps lats.Squat: 1,040

I think what you might find useful is the approach we use.
Look at Jordan's issue with it and discuss it. This is just a guess but, I'm betting Jordan and your approach was a comp type grip and a slight or fixed decline angle. Couple that with touching high, or in the manner of the flat bench groove and not only will it bother the shoulders, I don't think it's going to assist your flat bench.
Make the angle steeper and err on too steep versus not steep enough. Shoulder width or a tad bit more narrow for grip and touch low. Just above the navel is not too low. Not only are the triceps a primary mover in a multi joint movement, the lats also become part of the process.
Ultimately, keep in mind always that the decline session for us is only used for assistance inthe bench press and to help develop pressing power. We are always working on being dynamic and so, we don't do a separate speed/dynamic session.Squat: 1,040

Sometimes they will have the floating adjustable ab benches and the leg lock is tight but we used one for years at a commercial gym before I found the right benches for the compound.

I really got to get busy and pull it together. I was cruising to an elite total and the squat injury did me in and then when I dropped below 320, it was like I lost all my leverage. I pulled 625 beltless 7 weeks after my honeymoon and the wife was treating me like I was 17 and not 47.
