Both these diets get heavily knocked on this forum - but so does pretty much everything
I forget how long since I started Warrior - over a year. I am the same weight but with a lower body fat. It did diminish my fat gut a fair bit.
I don't like to count calories or plan my meals. I have a life.
So for me what's needed is a general dietary frame work. If I was pedantic I would count calories but thats not gunna happen.
My bodyfat is now 20% prior to Warrior Diet it was getting toward 30%. I hope changing what I eat to paleo will take me down to 10% bodyfat.
While maintaining my present 230 lbs. My build is muscular & I am strong, 44 years old next month.
I eat a lot of yoghurt, sugary nut bars, chocolate etc and stuff myself on potatoes & roast frequently.
So this Paleo should diss some fat.
At 230 lbs & 10% bodyfat I will look & feel pretty good. Once I get there I can make a decision about further altering my body composition.
If anybody else has has success combining these diets & weighs over 200 lbs please discuss...

It's pretty insulting when you equate counting calories and planning meals to 'not having a life'. Don't slam other people because you lack the willpower and discipline to do what you have to do to reach your goals.
You've dieted for a year and are still 230lbs @ 5'11" the reason for that is in bold.

I was going to go out tonight, but then I remembered I was a pedantic, calorie-counting nerd and not a cool, swinging fitness guru like yourself. The onerous-ness of calorie counting really cramps my style.
This great plan is going to allow you to lose 23 lbs of fat and gain 23 lbs of muscle and manage to end up lean with a BMI of ~32. You truly are a fitness guru.

yoghurt, sugary nut bars, chocolate etc and stuff myself on potatoes & roast frequently.
is the stuff that I will remove from my diet.
I wonder how long it will take to see a difference ?

I don't think you understand what the word pedantic means. You see, I'm being pedantic by pointing out that you used the word pedantic wrong. Get it? Now you can sound less stupid on the internet.

I have just been trying out the Paleo diet, unweighed and unmeasured. In 3 months I put on 20lbs. Not cool.
They have a high focus on high fat and high protein intake, and the whole way of life is around slow movement, lifting heavy stuff, and sprinting once a week or so.
I say the best answer is always to count calories and really look at the data to tweak to work with what you've got.
Give it a try, it may work for you. But then it may not. Don't fall into the hype of this being the new magical weightloss fad, because even though it's marketed as "eat all you can" so long as it's Paleo...it's not really.
Whilst it did nothing for my weight, it did improve my skin and digestion immensely!

Well, paleo does seem to get bashed around here, but it's less about people choosing to eat natural/whole foods than the reasons SOME practitioners assume that they SHOULDN'T eat certain natural/whole foods (like say potatoes), and exaggerating or outright making up the detriments of many "modern" foods. And of course, the seemingly common belief among them that primitive man was 8% body fat and built like Alistair Overeem, or the blanket assumptions about what primitive man as a whole did or did not eat. Also, the assumption that natural selection since the dawn of agriculture hasn't had an impact on modern man.
I doubt anyone here would bash people who chose to eat mostly or even entirely whole foods for the positive aspects of doing so, but (again, SOME) paleo people like to make up crap about "modern" foods as they go along.
If the "all or nothing" mentality works for them, it doesn't mean it is for everybody.

I agree with what you're saying above here. People treat the 'paleo' diet like they treat the 'vegan lifestyle' or the 'atkins lifestyle' or hell, even Crossfit. It becomes cult-like in it's following, and people convince themselves that it's the BEST way to do something, and invent reasons why any other way sucks.
There's nothing wrong with whole, organic foods. But is eating in that lifestyle the "end all be all"? No.
Also, I'd love to see anyone in this forum at 5'11" cut to 230lbs and 10% BF naturally. That would be incredible.

The Warrior Diet promotes the idea that one does not need to count calories instead that the body will naturally want the 'correct' amount of food if the right type of food is consumed. These ideas are pretty contrary the the calorie counting IIFYM culture common these forums thus they do get bashed a fair bit.
OP, counting calories allows you to have a social life AND make progress. Instead of sacrificing going out and enjoying events/food because one doesn't want to negatively impact progress the individual can count calories, hit their macros and enjoy themselves.http://kickingthehodge.blogspot.com

I thinks its been 2 weeks now - I have lost about 4 kg (empty stomach)
But I dont actually want to lose weight just alter body composition. I want to go from 20 --> 10% fat
So I am not happy - allthough my waist is slimmer which is good.
Frankly I dont like the diet - I want potatos and yoghurt
I will ease back in my spuds and taro, sweet potato this week because if my weight gets any lower I will feel like a skinny ***got.
But thats still Paleo & I know with spuds I can keep my muscle mass
UPDATE: I don't think this diet is for me - I feel catabolic
I think I'm gunna get me some chocolate yoghurt & fitness bars HA HA HAAA
BUT... I may actually periodize Paleo as it has cut my dangerous gut substantially. I need to find the right workout/diet balanceLast edited by FreeFitnessGuru; 07-16-2012 at 08:17 AM.

Sorry I cant drop this topic
I'm still on Paleo+Warrior & my empty stomach weight is now 98kg
I have added in a bit more carb to fuel my muscles better but nothing like I normally eat (or used to)
I am impressed with the missing space on my guts that was once fat. But like I said I don't like this diet & feel it is best for men that want to weight 180 - 200
I don't - I want to weigh 230 + at 10% fat. So now I am checking out "the anabolic diet".
I will make a decision if I should try Anabolic + Warrior rather than Paleo + Warrior
For now I stay on Paleo + WarriorGareth Thomas

Now at 96KG empty stomach but now I am beginning the "Anabolic Diet" carb loading I expect my weight to go back up to 100 KG + (even this weekend after a good 2 days munching)
I have never carried so little fat in years, my waist is slim - no pot belly any more.
I reckon another month & the abs will be showing at this rate.Gareth Thomas
