if you go to like wal mart or a convenience store and pay with fake 20's, how do people get busted? couldn't you just say you had no idea, cause the bills could have been transferred between hundreds of people before you?

When dealing in large amounts of cash, you are suppose to check for authenticity.
Happened several times to me whilst buying cars. I guess if you were to purchase a car or something, you might get done.

My boy did this. Lives in the hood, someone sold him a bunch of fake 20s. They used it at a place. Police crawling all over next day. Dude that sold him 20s almost killed him because he went back to get more and thought he was a cop. Scary shiit.
Uh, I can see that definitely. They don't want to be held liable as a company for an employee getting hurt. What's worse, losing 100 dollars that their insurance probably covers, or getting a multimillion dollar lawsuit...

Usually they just deny the note IF they even catch that it is fake. Lets be honest, 99.9999% of cashiers dont give a fuk since they dont see it as their loss.

caught someone passing a fake 5 to me when i worked at a store... never typically use that 'pen/highlighter' on 5s.... but it felt like computer paper.. had a piece of tape on it.. yet looked old..
pen turned dark brown instead of yellowish.. fake.
he b*tched (shady lookin guy, but doubt he meant to pass it)... told him to take back to where he got it.We need systems approach to government, no longer partisan patchwork

pretty easy to get caught..
you use more then a few and the store clerk notices they are fake.. they will call the police, police investigate, look at store cameras etc.. get a face, fingerprints on the money.. Also when the store deposits the money into the bank they will catch it, same deal.
Happens a few times and they can pinpoint it to who is using the money... Thats why counterfeiters sell their money off for like 20% value. Its a lot of work to 'clean' money. Best way is to buy tons of small things (buy a pack of gum with a $20, get the change back in clean money).RON PAUL 2012

When I worked retail we would get print outs weekly of security cam footage of people passing fakes notes. Typically they would go store to store so the stores shared the info. Our store would do 300k a weekend day so people would get away with it almost every time but they would get the cam footage with the plates of the car/cars they drove and build a case against them.

Caught a guy at home depot trying to buy a 200 dollar drill with counterfeits. ******* was on the phone talking about church trying to make it seem like hes purchasing it for a church renovation; even said "I hope that's enough, I don't want to show up empty handed."
I could just tell by the way they felt and looked."Easy, peezy, lemon squeezy."

They can usually pin you for it if you carry large amounts. If you have only 1 or 2 bills on you, you may claim you received it from anywhere. If it was like, twenty or more fake bills even if you said you didn't know where it came from they would assume you got them from someone close and question you.

If we closed at say 10pm that night... They would typically pay at like 9:55pm... They want the cashier to be in a hurry/just want to go home... The cams above the registers you could see the notes... Not the serial numbers or anything but you could tell the value... They would just count where the location should be.

I worked as a gas station attendant in a bad neighborhood for a while and caught quite a bit of fake notes. On my first day a guy tried passing a fake $100 bill printed on a $5 bill that had the ink lifted off the paper. I just looked for the watermark and it was Abe Lincoln instead of Benji. Would get them pretty often.
