Its back!!! One of the finest Ive ever had. If its anything like the previous release, its uber syrupy with little carbonation. LOVED this beer last time. What a great find for my first vacation day.

Know that feel. I depart for Tuesday for my first ever bachelor party experience.
Had Laughing Dog's Sneaky Pete tonight at the local alehouse:
An Imperial IPA, 10% ABV. Really disappointing; lacked complexity. Had a good smell, strong in pines. But the taste was pure spice throughout. The high alcohol volume wasn't masked at all. I would have preferred more balance.
Tonight's purchase:
Run. Rave. Repeat.

It's not good. Similar to Hopslam, Nugget Nectar, etc. Blind Pig destroys Elder.
That otter creek porter is surprisingly decent. I think they have a java or mocha porter or stout that was ass.
Meanwhile, the 2012 batch of Lake Erie Monster kinda sucks More piney than normal, seems to have a twat hair less malt too... Am disappoint.Official Supp. Misc Beer Policeman

It IS darn good, but dont get too emotionally wrapped up in it before you have it as you will be let down. Its just a really fantastically crafted beer that is just hard enough to get that the high reviews come with some mythical emotion. Like I said, its great...but its not going to change your perspective on beer or anything.

Chiming in with the Pliny talk. It's a great DIPA - but don't expect anything mind blowing. Also, it falls off fairly quick IMO so if you try it do your best to get it fresh. Have yet to have Blind Pig but it's high on my list of IPA's I need to try.
I've had many IPA/DIPA's and EASILY the best one consistently is Heady Topper. Try it - blows Pliny out of the water. Most of my tasting group agrees

yeah, I think pliny is great as well, but a lot of the hype comes from the difficulty in finding it...of course, now pliny the elder is becoming more available and the hype has shifted to pliny the younger, which I have yet to try...
also have yet to try heady topper so one of you *******s send me one.

This right here. You made an excellent point. SOOO much hype comes from limited availability / brewery only releases. That's the case with most anything. For instance; limit a beer, create a small batch number, and get hype behind it and it becomes a fantastic beer. Not to say that PtE isn't a great DIPA, but the fact that the east coast will never see it and most states outside of CA makes it desirable. If it were available all over the US I guarantee that the rank/hype would drop.
It's all boils down to we want what we can't have / the grass is always greener on the other side. For instance I used to trade on BA like crazy and realized over a span of two years that I could get beers of equal quality a few miles away for a fraction of the price (with shipping included).
It will always be that way though. Known brewery inserts barrel aged X and the hype train goes crazy. Happens every time.

Okay brah's. Check it out, read everything and reply accordingly.
2nd Misc Beer BIF
Sup beer brahs. I posted a while back about doing a Misc Beer BIF and there was quite a bit of interest. So… let’s give it a shot. For those of you who don’t know what a BIF is, here is the breakdown. A BIF (Beer It Forward) is a unique way to trade beer. Each participant is given a target, shops for their target based on the rules, and sends the mystery box out during the designated time - all of the info is below. A BIF is a great way to try different beers from distributions you can’t access on a regular basis. A BIF is also pretty damn exciting because you’ll be getting a box from a sender who will be unknown to you and the beers will be a complete surprise. Typically BIF’s will follow a theme and to keep things easy, cheap, and fun we’re going to stick to Locals – so here are the rules.
Rules
Participants: Would like to get a maximum of 14. Priority goes to active members from a variety of regions (we don’t want a majority of the participants from the same distribution group).
BIF Theme: Locals. As mentioned above this is a chance for you to try new beers that you normally wouldn’t be able to try. If you want to throw in a rare beer, brewery release, or what not then go for it – I’m sure your target won’t complain.
Ounce/Bottle Limit: I want this to stay relatively strict, 6 12’s and 4 22oz/750ml. If you have an extra bottle that you really want your target to have then sure toss it in there, but don’t go way over and certainly don’t go under. Do not send more than one bottle of any beer. Also, send GOOD beer. Don’t send expired IPA’s or something you wouldn’t let your dog drink. As a general reference check Beeradvocate.com, look up the rating, and make sure it generally has favorable reviews.
Shwag: Going to keep this strictly to glassware. Send one brewery/microbrewery related glass. The logo pints are cool but if you can get creative with brewery snifters, tulips, etc. that would be even better. Once again, get something local – not Guinness, Sierra Nevada, etc.
Shipping date: July 16-30. Ship anytime between those dates – not before, not after. This should allow plenty of time to shop for your target, pack, etc.
Hints and Activity: These BIF’s are only fun if everyone participating is involved. As the shipping date gets closer throw out hints, anywhere from 1-4, as to who your target is and maybe clues to what is inside.
- For instance:
First Hint: My targets box'o'beer is heading north 500+ miles
Second Hint: My target’s team is currently in the NHL playoffs.
Third Hint: My target will be receiving several good brews from a turtle and fish themed brewery. Also, my targets state is home of a College mascot that resembles a small bear that can kill animals twice its size.
Final Hint: My box is in route to the home state of Founders and Bells Brewery.
Target Destination: Michigan (Wolverines) - sending a good bit of Terrapin and Sweetwater, hence the turtle and fish hint.
Once you receive your package please post a picture of the haul and what user sent the package. Senders make sure you put your Bodybuilding Username somewhere visible. It’s always great to see what everyone gets.
If you would like to participate please send me a PM. Here is what I need:
Name:
Address:
Phone Number:
Email:
Favorite Styles (Pick 3):
Styles You Dislike (Don’t send me a list, just a few if any):
Useful Links
Beer Distribution: http://www.seekabrew.com/ - You can compare distribution territories with this site, very helpful. For instance: You’re from Michigan and your target is from Georgia. Don’t send Founders or Bells (unless it’s something like a KBS, which is totally up to your discretion/generosity). Georgia doesn’t get Dark Horse, Shorts, or Bear Republic so any of those would be a great option to send.
Shipping/Packaging Help: http://alewatcher.blogspot.com/2010/...ader-tips.html - Very useful if you’re a first time shipper – Skip to “How to Package Beer”. Beer isn’t something you just throw in a box and send on your way, pack it as if your first born child was inside. Use plenty of bubble wrap, packaging peanuts, a good box, etc. Use Fedex or UPS – NOT USPS.
Example of a similar BIF: http://beeradvocate.com/community/th...nd-hauls.5190/ Notice the hints/hauls and all of that jazz.
I will stop taking participants when this fills up. I will be matching you with your target and will PM you when targets are all set up. Do not tell who your target is and if you have any questions feel free to shoot me a PM. Should be fun!

Yeah mayne, glassware. Although I don't mind being lenient and allowing a brewery T-Shirt or something like that.
Anyway, we have two in so far: Spak and Giggitybrah. I'll add you to the list Waffle as soon as you PM me your info - and sorry brah you'll have a new sender. I plan on sending an assortment of Bud Ice, Natty Light, etc so consider yourself lucky
Shipping can run anywhere from $12-$20ish depending on how far you send it. Twelve bottles though shouldn't kill your wallet. Regardless, if you've never done anything like this I guarantee you you'll enjoy it big time. There's nothing like anxiously waiting for a big box of random brewskies that you've never tried and wondering what you'll get.
Waiting for more brah's to join! In other news, had a Three Floyds Moloko last night. Meh at best, I would drink a Left Hand Milk Stout on nitro over that (srs). Over use of sugar and lactose and that was about it. Overhyped. Then again, I had it a little late for a milk stout so maybe that had something to do with it.
