About an hour ago I got really bad lower back pains playing basketball and I immediately went home, took aleeve and am lying down on a heating pad.
What did I pull/strain, and what else should I do?

The Dr. will likely check to see if you can bend forward and backward. Then he will check to see if you can rotate right and left. If so, he will diagnose a "lumbar sprain"....48 hours bed rest, then introduce activity as tolerable. Prescribe naproxen (alleve) and some type of muscle relaxer. Recovery about 1 week give or take a few days. Good Luck
I did this on Monday and went to Dr. Wednesday. Feeling about 70%, but the first two days was in tremendous pain."A man that doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man"- Don Vito Corleone

[QUOTE=whitetigerwoods;900178981]I'll see how I am in the morning but it's probably best to call out of work?[/QUOTE
Dr. kept me out all week. See how you feel, but it sounds like you're not going to be up for going anywhere for a day or two (at least)
Believe it or not, I can BP 405, but wrecked my back taking milk out of fridge. Dr. told me "You don't need heavy weights". Nobody big ever told me that (Doc was about 140 lbs.)"A man that doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man"- Don Vito Corleone

i got the same injury last friday except i pulled a muscle that's in the middle-right side, still hurts a bit but it's definitely better getting better everyday. i got it when i was running so you maybe could have the same injury that i have.
if it only hurts when you're walk it's most likely a pulled muscle or strain. if it's swelling up, put a ice-pack but if it's not, then keep using the heat pad. but if it's the bone and is painful even when you sit or lie down, go to your doctor and he'll tell you what to do next.
if it's just your muscle, don't bother going to the doctor cos when i went, he only talked to me for like 2 minutes, he just told me to have plenty of rest and take some tablets for muscles and if it still hurts for a week, i should go back to him and it could be more than a pulled muscle. but if you're really worried, it's not gonna hurt going to your doctor.Φ United Misc Frat Φ

Go get it checked out by a orthopaedic surgeon/doctor if pain continues for more than a week. Don't listen or follow anyones advice unless they know what's causing the pain. I've been dealing with back pain since 2010, a doctor, a physio and a chiropractor have all worked and made recommendations on my back which made the pain worse because they were presuming what was causing the pain when in actual fact they were completely wrong.
Can you describe the pain a bit more what does it feel like? erector muscle sprain, nerve pain, bone ache.. etc

i got the same damage last saturday except i drawn a muscular that's in the middle-right part, still affects a bit but it's definitely better getting better daily. i got it when i was operating so you maybe could have the same damage that i have.
if it only affects when you're move it's most likely a drawn muscular or stress. if it's inflammation up, put a ice-pack but if it's not, then keep using the warm pad. but if it's the cuboid and is hurtful even when you sit or lie down, go to your physician and he will tell you what to do next.
if it's just your muscular, don't hassle going to the physician cos when i went, he only discussed to me for like 2 moments, he just informed me to have a lot of relax and take some pills for muscle tissue and if it still affects for per weeks time, i should go returning to him and it could be more than a drawn muscular. but if you're really concerned, it's not going to harm going to your physician.
