OP should have changed his dosage up... try 1.25mg EOD or every 3rd day..
try to keep estrogen as low as possible with anti estrogen strategies... either by supplements, meds and or diet
and or adding in some low dose cell tech.. yes at 20 it can be done if you want to keep your hair and have little to no sexual side effects.. of course best done under a good endo dr...

its quite obvious with these sorts of medications and accutane that some people will always be part of that small percentage that experience the worst side effects.

Took finasteride for a year and didn't have any side effects, nor did I see any improvement in my hair. I heard about all the horror stories and stopped immediately. Do NOT take this stuff!!!

I don't even know what you're talking about anymore bro. You seem like one of those people who would lobby for human eugenics because they don't understand that the course of true human evolution is over and in 50 years we will be altering our own genetics and that of our childrens.
Maybe that would help, maybe it wouldn't. The mechanism of propecia side effects that persist even after stopping usage of the drug is not understood. It's being researched right now. So you can't say that for sure, especially when endocrinologists are attempting to treat propecia suffers by re-balancing their hormones and still not getting any results. That's why the main theory right now is receptors in the brain being damaged.

In on fuk propecia crew. Took it for a 2 years. Had brain fog for a few days but it went away. Got great results from it too but stopped for 1 year cuz I had just gotten gyno surgery and I was getting gyno again. Doctor said the propecia was causing the gyno.
Started taking it again 2 months ago and after 1st day of taking it my cawk was hurting. It was a burning sensation at the tip of my cawk and got brain fog again. Took it for a few days then stopped. Only using Minoxidil and Nizoral now.

You said that the have been of Propecia for over a year now and that the side-effects have only gotten worse over that period of time. Do you think that the effects have gotten worse because how the drug altered your nervous system, or could it also be that by getting the side-effects in the first place, they have gotten worse because of the psychological aspect of having them. In other words, you got ED as a side-effect from taking the drug, do you think it's possible your ED has gotten worse because of the negative experiences you have had with sex the last year?

That's the attitude I had before my penis turned into a wet noodle. Take a few moments to think about everything in your life that you enjoy, then think about how you would feel about those things if you had no ability to have pleasure from sex. There is a man outside of Mercks headquarters right now on a hunger strike to get Propecia recalled, and says he is willing to starve to death just to get press on it. And right now all you're thinking of is taking the exact same drug he took for your hair.
Wow. I never had the brainfog symptoms that people talk about. I guess I'm kind of lucky in that regard.

It's definitely not in my head because I have deadened nerves in my penis. I can put an ice cube on the head (anywhere above the frenulum) and I don't even feel the cold. If that doesn't prove that it's not in my head, then I don't know what does. And it is common for finasteride side effects to get worse as time goes on after discontinuation. Again, the mechanism is not understood. And I have mentioned earlier in this thread that I can get a little bit of an erection from a vigorous handjob but it goes down the second it is stopped. Usually ED is caused by a vascular problem 99% of the time, and I can run a 7 minute mile and run 3-5 days a week. Running helps me get my mind off of this problem.
So I think the erectile dysfunction thing is mainly caused by the deadened nerves in my penis. If you can't feel anything on the head of your dick, then it's kind of obvious.

cot dayum brah, i sure hope this isn't permanent...
also, good thing i'm not balding and probably never will (srs) due to my family's great hair genetics
brb grandfather is 75 and still has a full head of thick hair. he even has to get his hair buzzed like every 3 months because it grows very fast
according to everyone in my family, my hair looks and feels exactly like my grandfather's in terms of texture, etc."Psai is the love child of Rick Ross, Ghandi and Oz" - Phoenix9369

Propecia faurked me up to. Dead penis, zero energy, brain fog, all the above.
After about 10 doctors and somewhere around $6,000 or more in medical debt I've decided to ride it out and hope the current research on its side effects will help us find a cure. If not then I will prolly finish myself right on Merks front lawn.

"Finasteride, a 4-azasteroid and analogue of testosterone, works by acting as a potent and specific, competitive inhibitor of one of the two subtypes of 5α-reductase, specifically the type II isoenzyme.[32] In other words, it binds to the enzyme and prevents endogenous substrates such as testosterone from being metabolized. 5α-reductase type I and type II are responsible for approximately one-third and two-thirds of DHT production in the body, respectively.[33] Accordingly, finasteride selectively prevents the conversion of testosterone into DHT by the type II isoenzyme, resulting in a decrease in serum DHT levels by about 65-70% and in prostate DHT levels by up to 85-90%"
Personally, I would be most concerned about the Allopregnanolone suppression. MS sufferers, were recently found to have low Allopregnanolone.
"Cause of emotional and sexual side effects
DHT, and neuroactive steroids (NAs) such as allopregnanolone (ALLO) and tetrahydrodeoxycorticosterone (THDOC), potent positive allosteric modulators of the GABAA receptor—which is the same site of action of euphoriant and anxiolytic drugs like benzodiazepines and alcohol), are important endogenous neuroregulators that have been shown to possess powerful antidepressant and anxiolytic effects as well as to play a positive role in sexual function.[24][23][37] Their biosynthesis is dependent on both isoforms of 5α-reductase, and accordingly, finasteride has been shown to reduce their formation in the body.[38][39][40] As such, this effect of finasteride is a likely cause of the emotional and sexual side effects associated with the drug.[23][24] Additionally, due to the fact that the NAs and not just DHT are involved, the fact that the mood and anxiety-related side effects occur not only in men but in women as well[25] can also potentially be explained."Last edited by Ramadanman; 06-07-2012 at 05:37 PM.

Oh yeah and Finasteride was discovered by studying a group of hermaphrodites - search that on google images and see what it looks like.
"In 1974, Julianne Imperato-McGinley of Cornell Medical College in New York attended a conference on birth defects. She reported on a group of hermaphroditic children in the Caribbean who appeared sexually ambiguous at birth, and were initially raised as girls, but then grew external male genitalia and other masculine characteristic post-onset of puberty. Her research group found that these children shared a genetic mutation, causing deficiency of the 5α-reductase enzyme and male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which was found to have been the etiology behind abnormalities in male sexual development. Upon maturation, these individuals were observed to have smaller prostates which were underdeveloped, and were also observed to lack incidence of male pattern baldness.[47][48]
In 1975, copies of Imperato-McGinley's presentation were seen by P. Roy Vagelos, who was then serving as Merck's basic-research chief. He was intrigued by the notion that decreased levels of DHT led to the development of smaller prostates. Dr. Vagelos then sought to create a drug which could mimic the condition found in the pseudo-hermaphroditic children in order to treat older men who were suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia.[49]
In 1992, finasteride (5 mg) was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which Merck marketed under the brand name Proscar.
In 1997, Merck was successful in obtaining FDA approval for a second indication of finasteride (1 mg) for treatment of male pattern baldness (MPB), which was marketed under the brand name Propecia."Last edited by Ramadanman; 06-07-2012 at 05:38 PM.

Not a doctor but I know like 5 guys who have tried it and 3 are still on it to this day with no sides. The other 2 quit taking it because they couldn't get it up and after the drug left their system they were back to normal again. The half-life of it is so short dude, it's like 6 hours. Perhaps your issue is psychological?
My mother's father's father had hair loss and so did my dad's brother. I don't have any hair loss at 27 but as a preventative I take something even stronger than Propecia. I take Avodart, and that **** isn't even APPROVED for hair loss. No sides bro. Been on it for three years. Downstairs is still the same hardness as it was a year ago.
Lack of DHT affects people differently. Some guys can't deal with it downstairs -- I think there is a correlation with low testosterone levels. I happen to have very high natural testosterone levels (near 900) so I guess the fact that I'm eliminating so much DHT from my system doesn't affect me.
P.S. -- you know what the half-life of Avodart is? Like 5 weeks. So it's like 150 times as long as propecia. In b4 I get cancer.Last edited by JG18; 06-07-2012 at 05:48 PM.
