At the whole first chunk of that Bane's character is half built around being huge, essentially Bane is an evil hulk as far as a simple description goes.
Without being huge Bane is just a semi-intelligent guy with not much working for him.
Bale was perfectly muscular enough to fit the Batman role but Bane just plain doesn't look right.

Mirin the traps. Like someone else said earlier, he looks like a 40 year old lifter who isn't too concerned about dieting or cardio. I admire that.
Also, as long as I have been alive and read comics, I have always associated Bane with being huge. Make him huge + smart and he's a good villain.Instagram: kvltbrah

Is anyone ITT familiar with the character beyond a picture you found online? In the story, yes, he starts out big, but he essentially takes some kind of steroids and grows MUCH larger before your eyes. I wouldn't be shocked to see him juice within the context of the story and "become huge" towards the end of the movie. That transformation was always a big part of his character.

FIRST OFF (Not much working for him????):
"Bane was born in the fictional Caribbean Republic of Santa Prisca, in a prison called Pea Dura ("Hard Rock"). His father Edmund Dorrance had been a revolutionary and had escaped Santa Prisca's court system. The corrupt government, however, decreed that his young son would serve out the man's life sentence, and thus Bane's childhood and early adult life were spent in the amoral penitentiary environment.
Though imprisoned, his natural abilities allow him to develop extraordinary skills within the prison's walls. He reads as many books as he can get his hands on, builds up his body in the prison's gym, and learns to fight in the merciless school of prison life. Despite his circumstances, he finds teachers of various sorts during his incarceration, ranging from hardened convicts to an elderly Jesuit priest, under whose tutelage he apparently receives a classical education. Bane murders this priest upon his return to Santa Prisca years later.
Bane ultimately establishes himself as the "king" of Pea Dura prison."
SECONDLY
Who the fuark said Nolan had to use YOUR vision of the comic book Bane?
Did you hate The Dark Knight?
TDK didn't stay loyal to Joker's origins. "he falls into a vat of chemical waste. He emerges with bleached white skin, red lips, green hair and a persistent grin"
Did the clown make-up and scars really bother you??
Nolan is making his own interpretation of Bruce Wayne's story... I'm guessing you were one of the people pissed off that Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker.
Let's wait and watch the movie before we bash Tom Hardy as Bane. The movie looks amazing, and everyone involved has stated the script is incredible.Bowser

Changing Joker's origin is not that big of a deal. Making Bane (a character whose defining attribute is his enormous size) a small villain is pretty bad. Camera tricks will be involved to make him look bigger, sure. But he is not Bane, he's just some other villain Nolan created for this movie. It's a sin to call Tom Hardy Bane in this movie, unless there is a big transformation that they've kept secret (which is plausible).

What the **** are you talking about. The Joker has no definitive origins. Even in The Killing Joke he says "Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another... if I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!". If anything, the TDK was truer to the character than the chitty "fell into chemical waste" thing you're talking about, because Ledger's Joker consistently changes his origin story.Lifts:

I was SUPER dissappointed by Bane in the new movie. Was he not supposed to be built lie the hulk anyway?

They're still pushing the whole strength thing though. In the preview, him manhandling his way around the broken plane, the agent calling him a "big guy" etc, him walking around in the trailers beating up Batman like he's super strong, etc. It's sort of hard to believe that when Hardy is lighter and shorter than Bale. Even with the camera angles and such in the previews, he doesn't really come across as that physically intimidating.
