Would a 15 min HIIT session burn wy more calories than a 4 minute tabata session?

    *sigh*.....where to begin....

There are waaaay too many factors involved to give a simple yes/no answer.
I only have two main comments on this:

    1. Only the most elite athletes can actually perform the Tabata Protocol
    2. Roughly 65% of people who claim to do HIIT actually do MIIT (regular intervals)

Just do whatever type of cardio you like best, and account for it with your diet

    Tabata is a HIIT protocol.

Tabata looks like a good way to attempt to work your heart directly.

Probably. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that 45 minutes of moderate intensity normal cardio would burn even more than that though.

eh, the thread is about burning calories.

There's no way that 4 minutes on an elliptical is going to burn as many calories as HIIT on any exercise that's proficiently conditioned.

    fine.

Tabata at 10 minutes will probably burn about the same amount of calories as a less intense 15 minute protocol. I am still interested what prompted the question. If you are using HIIT to burn calories, you are doing it in a deficit. I personally think HIIT is much more effective at a maintence level or surplus.

Either way you look at it, you can not out train a bad diet. Cardio just tends to spike hunger and cause you to overeat.

You are going to have the same hunger level either way (a 500 cal deficit is a 500 cal deficit). If you love the cardio though... than do it up.

    Cardio is just heart exercise.

Tabata will have a definite cap compared to anything that uses more resistance.
