Squats In Chuck Taylors (Converse All-Stars)

I read online that it's best NOT to do squats in running shoes - a cheap alternative would be Converse All Stars (Chuck Taylors).
Can anyone say whether this is true or not? Would chucks be good for other exercises as well?

It's mainly due to the lack of cushion, you won't be rolling to the sides of your feet as much and you'll be more stable.

They make great all around lifting shoes.

    Barefoot works well too.

Running shores are arched, which is not something you want.
A lot of athletic shoes have air cushions, springs, bouncy raised heels, etc. too. It's like squatting on a mattress--not very stable.

I always lift in chucks. Perfect for squating, deadliftinf, and standing OHP because they keep your feet flat and there is no cushion.

I use these for squats and they were a big improvement over my old running shoes. If you don't want to spend the money on them, just take your shoes off for squats and deadlifts. Even with Chucks, I take them off for deadlifts

I always lift in my Chucks. They are my everyday shoe as well outside the gym.

Walmart sells a replica of the Chucks but the name brand is Faded Glory and they are only $12. I lift in my Faded Glory Shoes and they have lasted over six months and are still going strong.

True, for me or you they're not, but $40 can be a lot for someone to spend for lifting shoes

I wear them also outside the gym as well so they aren't just used for only the gym.

If someone was using them for just the gym, $40 isn't that expensive compared to the shoes on the market right now. I know a lot of people use those Vibram shoes. Those are $80....no way in hell I would pay $80 for those.

I feel the same way. That's why you see all these "minimalist" shoes coming out all of a sudden. I wouldn't drop $80 on some fukcing shoes like that. I stay with my Chucks all day!

OP they make some chuck slip on low tops that are about $30...I got a pair of these and they are snug and stable to lift in, but the slip on nature makes them convenient as around the house/run errand shoes also.

eyeing some adidas sambas next tho.

The $12 I spent on my Chucks knockoffs were well worth it. I'd pay $40+ in heartbeat. Easily the best investment I've made in anything lifting/BB related.

That's a good price. Walmart isn't near me so I just get my Chucks at a Famous Footwear near me.

Romaleos. They really do feel more stable.

I think I'll hit up Target or something to find some knock off low top chucks. If I can't I'll get some actual All Stars. Low top Chucks seem like an awesome summer casual shoe, both outside and in the gym.

It's just funny because I thought I was giving myself an advantage by using my track shoes inside the weight room. Hopefully a little after the shoe change my squat will finally start to improve.
