One of the bros in my local gym came up to me today as I was on my last set of box squats. As I racked the bar he started YELLING for everyone in the gym to pretty much hear. He was telling me, "What are you thinking sitting down with all that weight on your back?! If you want to stay 5' for the rest of your life keep doing that and fuk up your lower back. I had to go to a chiro to get my back fixed and worked out from that."
What's the verdict here on box squatting?

If you slam on the box, it is not great for you....don't slam on the box.

21 years old, 5'6, never done a box squat. Height is genetic. The misconception about heavy lifting preventing you from growing taller was proven to be completely incorrect decades ago. And as long as you aren't slamming or just hanging out sitting like that for 20 minutes, you should be fine with your lower back XD

Rocking helps to build some momentum and lunch you forward. For my experience, when I used to rock, I used to use a lot more quads and didn't really use my glutes.
