I need to study up....and fast.
My son has enjoyed his S&W 15-22 a ton but was urging me to get "the real thing" for us to shoot this summer. His last day of school was last Friday & our new AR arrived today.
I went with a buddies recomendations and bought a DDM4V1.
Now for some bullets, lube and other gadgets. Need to learn how to run it properly.

depends a lot on the barrel twist.
1:7 is milspec and will better utilize heavier projectile bullets with more grain bullets
1:8 is about a mid range
1:9 handles lighter stuff.
They will all shoot the same rounds, but each twist used with the proper rounds will be more accurate...but by 'more accurate' i'm talking about a difference in centimeters at anything but the longest ranges. In reality any combo of twist/ammo will drop someone with a center mass shot
If you look for Wolf ammo, its generally cheap as hell and fires just fine, comes in different grains. The only 'problem' with it is that Wolf uses soft lead rounds so it dirties up the barrel more than FMJ rounds, but it's nothing a good cleaning won't fix.
You can also get a decent reload setup for less than $500 with all the dies, presses..etc. Once you get over that initial cost, reloading yourself is pretty damn cheap

First thing I would suggest is to fully disassemble it, lower parts group and all, then lube and reassemble. You need to know how it goes together plus it will make modifying/upgrading easier. A good starter round is anythign in a 58 grain. Work you way up to 70 grain and check your accuracy, it'll like something between there. If your going to reload, start with stock/static loads, not too hot, and adjust the powder loads until you get solid groupings.
Mine. Built mine from scratch. Yankee Hill upper and lower, diamond cut chromium barrel, Timney stage 2 trigger, magpul ubr stock, nikon scope, since added a harris bipod. 1" groups at 250 yards - phuckin tack driver.

Very nice . . . and an excellent choice! Daniel Defense makes outstanding products. I bought a DDM4 last year and it's been flawless. Keeps my BHP .40 company

Bought it . . . I'll see if I can find the name/model (think it's made by Bulldog). It was on sale on Optics Planet right after I bought the AR and was pretty reasonably priced. Only had to make some really minor cuts in the foam to fit the mags. The hard case that came with the AR was nice, but it's waaaaay too long when packing it with all the other stuff we take to our cabin. This case is so much more packable and easier to handle.
Edit: Yep, it was a Bulldog BD595 . . .

AR s are awesome,I built my lower and bought a Daniel specter upper. As far as reloading goes by a Lee press setup. They are super cheap and good stuff.i reccomend lee single because it does each step at a time instead of progressive that does multiple. You will learn the basics and get the fundalmentals down good with it.Also start out with the .45 because on a strait wall pistol brass there are less steps to do.
Oh and one more thing and ill catch a lot of flack for this don't buy a 1911 unless u just have to have one. That being said I have one lol but would take my five seven or 460 to the range to shoot any day of the week over it.

Nothing wrong with the colt commander. Be careful of the safety. I know of a couple guys that have had them discharge when on safety and cocked, I know one guy that was cocked, hammer back, safety on, stuck it in the front of his pants being a dick and it went of. Popped him in the femoral artery, bled out before the ambulance could get there.
Imho, you can't beat the .45 acp for personal defense and im a sucker for a 1911. I do like the glock 21sf only because it holds almost twice as much ammo. If one bullet is good, 2 bullets are better
