Nice my favorite postion. If you have a freind to help you, have them play center and hich the ball so you learn to go on the movment of the ball not the movement of the person.

Yep Carl is right. Nothing helps you more than practice. That said, in the weight room look to improve your explosion, footwork and hip flexibility. Ladder and quick feet hurdles will help your footwork. Box jumps, jump squats will help your improve your explosiveness.

Check out a couple YouTube channels. YouTube.com/sixstarnutrition and YouTube.com/bommaritoperformance has great instructional vids. Our Six Star channel has quick feet hurdles and box jumps. I'm sure you'll find other videos to help build your program. It all start on the field though, as Carl was suggesting.

When does TC start? Or are you in the midst of summer season?

    Practice, practice, practice man!
In the gym, squat, jump squat etc... Also focus on plyometrics, plyos are a great workout and very beneficial to football training.
    It's not over.

I agree with the repetition of someone snapping the ball. Have to train muscle memory for reaction. Also look at their fingers, right before hike they'll squeeze the ball. Don't forget cone work.

nose guard is a fun position. powercleans and jump squats.. cant go wrong with either. feet work like dots and using a speed ladder helped me the most.but seems like everyone is right on the money

yeah -- jump squats and power cleans for sure. I'd also recommend ladders and other footwork & agility drills to help with your balance and mechanics. you gotta feel loose out there -- and confident that your stronger and quicker than the guy across from you.

    Help!!!!

My son is a 6’ 240lbs left handed center... his snaps are PERFECT... but he’s slow off the ball. I have searched and searched and searched for some drills that will make him faster off the line.... but can’t find anything!!! Does anyone here know of anything that will help???? He’s gonna lose his job because of this if we don’t fix it and he’s worked so hard in the off season!! Oh and he’s fixing to be a junior in HS!

For DLine it's reaction time based on the center's movement; which have been what the prior posts are about. For center, some of the same things relate (weight room work), and some are dependent of what specific snaps he's making. Time to get off the ball will be different if the quarterback is up under center, or your snapping in pistol/shotgun, or you're long snapping. In any case the first responsibility is to make a good snap. However, as you progress as a center you need to start your blocking movements prior to finishing the snapping movement; especially for pulling. Similar is doing a double team or combo block, and it will vary is your quarterback is up underneath (possibly pulling with you) or getting a shotgun snap. First thing to work on is getting a very quick, consistent, snap. Your son's snaps may be perfect but they may not be quick. Study slow-mo film or get very good at using stop watch. To speed up the snap your son will just have to try it, and he will probably mess snaps up until he gets the hang of doing them quicker. He will also need to reduce the amount of time doing the follow through, but he still needs to do the follow through (for accuracy).

In the weight room he needs to work on plyometrics and Olympic lifts; squat jumps (mentioned earlier) are good as are lunge jumps. Your son also should work on grip strength (deadlift, plate pinchers, etc). Some of the plyometric work should include sprints out of a jump, for example the lunge jump. Holding a couple of heavy dumbbells, go into a lunge. Once your back knee touches drop the dumbbells and explode up into the air landing with the other foot as the back foot. Then immediately upon landing sprint out 5 yards. In addition to or as a replacement of Olympic lifts, incorporate med ball throws. Finally, play whack-a-mole and other things to work on hand-eye coordination and quick reaction to direction changing (ocular exercises). My son is a college NG, DT and LS and also backs up centers and guards. I use to work with him a lot on reaction ball training, ocular identification mainly to help in fielding and hitting baseballs but it has carry over to getting off the ball quick. Boxing (speed bag, double end bag, and focus mitt work) is also good for reaction work and football hand to hand combat work.
