I was about to get into an argument on hfboards about this question.
If you have the choice, would you rather get Semin or Radulov in FA? You can answer it just based on the player, or you can also factor in potential cap hits and other criteria.
A lot of people seem to think that Semin doesn't care or try all the time, but personally, I think that's a bunch of crap.

I would take Semin, even though I know Radulov has immense talent.
Semin can skate, pass, shoot like no one else, and plays a sound defensive game. He's leaving Washington because he wants to be used in more situations, and that includes PK.
I can't say enough about his shot. I'd love to have him along side Seguin..........

Canucks fan checking in.
Can't wait until GM's start trading so the goalie dilemma can end. Don't care about which one we keep so long as the team gets a fitting return.
Word is that Vokoun is going to play in the KHL next season so that will thin the goalie market a bit.Go Canucks Go!

Things I want Philly to do.
Trade for Suter's rights and offer him one of those contracts that the Flyers love to give out (8+ years with a NMC). Nashville will be very open to this considering Detroit is in their division.
See ya Carle, Kubina, and maybe Jagr (would sign for the right price).
Laperriere and Betts contracts are finally off the books. Lilja is leaving the team on his own to go play in Sweden so thats another million off the cap.
Pronger will not retire. He would be stupid to retire and stop taking that paycheck.
Re-sign Voracek. Trade JVR and Bobrovsky.
There is talks of an Amnesty in the upcoming CBA. Use that on Bryzgalov after next year if he is inconsistent again.psn: mdksniper

yeah each summer he would come back on the cap and count until camp when he can be sent down/put back on LTIR. under the current cba the summer cap has a 10% cushion so that would just eat away at that extra space and the flexibility you have...
but the flyers could also benefit from another amnesty buyout period when the new cba is place that will allow teams to get rid of contracts without the dead cap space that normally comes with a buyout. it might cost them more in terms of real $$ up front but would get rid of the cap hit.

a drastic difference in cap hits might change my mind but between the 2 i'd take semin 100 out of 100 times. semin is a more dynamic offensive players and all the negatives about him being lazy, etc can be said about radulov plus radulov has already shown he will bail on his team and flee to russia the first time things don't go his way.

J.Staal to the Leafs?? I would pretty much give up a package of anything that didn't include our first this year, Gardiner, Kessel....Scheen + Kadri and a prospect seems fair.

i expect the cap floor to be lowered to help teams hurt by being forced to spend to a certain point...
but the buyout thing will depend on what the new cap is. if the cap stays were it is then you don't need to do anything, but if the cap goes down you need to either have another rollback (which means no hockey next year) or some way to get rid of contracts to get under the new limits. they had both last time the lockout ended

Pens would not do Schenn+Kadri+prospect. since no deal will happen without him signing a long term contract, you have to think he would net close to what Richards did. getting Staal without giving up the 5th pick is pretty wishful thinking.
and the guy who wrote that article is a moron. most of the sports writers in Pittsburgh are crap. When it comes to the NHL thread I'm the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.
