Decided to make a birthday resolution... already freaked out

I decided to stop playing around and dive into the pool. I'm cutting fried food completely out of my diet until January 1st at the earliest.
I have always (ALWAYS) loved fried food and my favorite place in the world to eat is KFC.
I know this is what I need to do to get where I want to be and I can't just limit myself because I get too carried away.

I assume a lot of the women on here don't eat fried foods... how long have you been "fry free" and is there any advice you can give me?

Are you talking about fried food or fast food? I haven't had any fast food since 2009...ahh dream sequence...a Wendy's Double Classic w/Cheese, Large Fries and a Chocolate Milkshake. But I don't miss it bc I know where I would spend the next 12 hours if I tried to eat it again

Fried food can be subbed however. I make "fried" chicken in the oven, same w/cutlets and other variations. If you play around on google you'll be able to get some good ideas.

Most Important to Note...Yea!!! for you for wanting to be healthy and taking the steps to get there (even though they hurt a little now) I'll be rooting for you!

Well i'm not sure how the fast food will go. I'm not saying I won't have fast food, but well yeah I guess I pretty much am...
I do plan on occasionly cooking chicken in the oven with breading, but I don't think i'll leave the skin on the chicken which is another challenge for me. I have been growing to love skinless chicken breast so I think i'll be ok.
I'm just missing my extra crispy chicken from KFC already.

All I see in my head now when I smell or see fried food (esp chicken) is spiked insulin, gooey fat and just plain unhealthy. Just keep reminding yourself what those products actually do to your body

How often do you eat from KFC?

My suggestion would be to gradually decrease your consumption. I'm sure some people might suggest to quit it cold turkey, but I find that doing that just makes it worse.

I used to eat McDonald's breakfast at least 3-5 times a week (sausage and egg with a hashbrown) and finally decided this wasn't the best choice (financially or for my health). I started to cut back by only going twice a week (Mon and Fri), then cut it down to once a week. Now I might have it once or twice a month.

I find that by decreasing my visits gradually, I was able to refrain from indulging by knowing that I could treat myself soon. I also found other breakfast meals that I make myself that I enjoyed eating.

    Good luck!

P.S. Pick a different route if the KFC you normally stop at is on the way home. I make an effort to drive to work on a path that doesn't have the golden arches easily accessible.

LOL'ed hard! I threw my fryer out about 5 years ago and I don't miss it. There is a place here in town I eat at about twice a year and they have the BEST fried eggplant. I only eat it when I know I am headed home. It hits my gut like a ton of bricks but it is a treat.

I no longer eat fast food either and I certainly do not miss it at all!

Thanks I don't eat KFC too often, maybe once or twice a month... but anything I can get fried that's what I want. Sometimes I will sit down to eat a healthy lunch and it turns out it doesn't taste good at all (my spinach, tuna fish, black bean and raspberry vingerette salad) so I ditch it and head to good ol Safeway for some of their Chinese food with a fried egg roll.
When I do go out I make sure to only eat part of the meal or I order something bigger than i'll eat so that I have left overs...
I'm scared if I just cut back i'm going to lose track of how often I have it. I say all together I probably eat out (fast food or a resturant) once a week.

Never been much of a fast food eater. I did miss fried chicken-- You could mix up corn flakes with an egg white and some flour and then cover a chicken breast in that mixture and bake it.

Oh hell...who am I kidding?..that doesn't really taste like fried chicken either. The only thing that tastes like fried chicken is, well, fried chicken...the good part is, after a while I didn't miss it.

Now, if something is too greasy/fried, it makes me sick.

I miss Chinese food too. I find that if I marinate chicken in an Asian-style sauce and then grill it, that takes away some of the craving.

A little brown sugar, soy sauce and rice wine vinegar is good as a marinade.

Trying out a sesame oil, soy sauce, Chinese hot mustard marinade tonight--well see...

Dammit Kemo. Why you always do this to me?

Southern cooking is sooooooooooooooooooooooo good. Last time I was in Atlanta, I had fried chicken, mac and cheese, greens, peach cobbler.

    I was so sick.
    I gained two pounds.

    It was worth it.

Trust me, I LOVE fried food as well ^_^ but whenever I think of the my goal physique, it is pretty easy for me to exchange the fried foods for some fruits and veggies. Although... I will occasionally get some chips or fries, but this is only once or twice a month... hehe

I eat fried foods sometimes. I like it. Why live life without the things I like? My motto is moderation in all things.

And this is why men shouldn't be in the kitchen.

If you're baked chicken comes out dry and bland, then you ain't doing it right, son.

Also that is called a shallow fry not a 'light fry.'

A light fry is Paula Deen only using 4 sticks of butter instead of 5.

    Also I agree with Simpy.

Good on you op! Happy belated birthday also

I agree with Nicole... it is really tough to stop something cold turkey.. mmm turkey

cut it out in doses I would say... and definitely google recipes that mimic fried deliciousness so you don't weaken to cravings.. or buy a healthy cookbook. Figuring out new recipes helps me to be good about my eating as I get excited about it and forget I'm eating skinless chicken breasts............ again.

    Good luck op!

I'm hoping it will help me with getting me off this plateau I think i'm sitting on.

On a sidenote: my trainer has asked me to quit counting calories and macros so much and not be obsessed with getting 25g of protein in each of my 6 meals which have to be around 250 calories each... because he said he thinks i'm stressing myself out worrying about hitting all my calories and protein and such everyday. What do you guys think?

He has a point. The more you get anal counting your cals/macs the stress will consume you. I've seen it and experienced it. What I do is go by portions. Made my life/eating habits better.
