yea, im pretty serious about rotating fragrances to match the weather around my life. hence this light citrus for summer right now. have plenty of cologne to choose from errrrday. have a new bath soap just about every month or so depending how long the old one lasts, and usually switch up home fragrance and my shaving supplies each season, but always have some back ups to break the monotony if i want.

Same. I've got quite a few colognes and deodorants I like to play around with, same with my shaving supplies.

For home fragrance it's always clean linen, though. I love that sh*t.

Here is pretty much everything I have along with a quick review of each item:

Top row (left to right): Taylor of Bond Street Jermyn Street shaving cream, Edwin Jagger Aloe Vera soap, Edwin Jagger Sandalwood soap
Middle row (left to right): Col. Ichabod Conk Amber shaving soap, Edwin Jagger Aloe Vera cream
Bottom row (left to right): Classic Shaving Brand "Gold" Hypo-Allergenic shaving soap, Edwin Jagger Sandalwood cream
    *Not shown: Autruche Shaving soap

Top: Ceramic shaving bowl + Autruche Pure Badger shaving brush w/ stand
Middle: Proraso shaving cream, disposable shavette type straight razor, Dovo Best Quality straight razor w/ leather pouch
Bottom: Classic Shaving brand alum blocks, Neutrogena Post Shave Lotion, Proraso A/S, Captains Choice Bay Rum A/S sample, Clubman Pinaud styptic liquid, Bump Eraser spray

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Reviews:

    1. Taylor of Bond Street Jermyn Street shaving cream:
    - great smell
    - good for sensitive skin
    - lather dries (becomes powdery) quickly
    - not very protective

    2. Edwin Jagger Aloe Vera/Sandalwood soap
    - good smell
    - doesn't prevent irritation as some of the better soaps
    - harder to whip up a lather
    - lather dries quickly
    - caused me to get a few pimples

    3. Col. Ichabod Conk Amber shaving soap
    - glycerin based
    - probably one of the worst soaps I've used in terms of lather and protectiveness
    - even though it's cheap, I cannot recommend it because there are many other soaps out there

    4. Edwin Jagger Aloe Vera/Sandalwood cream
    - better than their soaps
    - smells good
    - still not the best in terms of protectiveness and lather

    5. Classic Shaving Brand "Gold" Hypo-Allergenic shaving soap
    - another glycerin based soap
    - same characteristics as the Col. Ichabod Conk soaps

    6. Autruche Shaving soap
    - tallow based soap
    - best protective soap I have tried yet
    - easy to lather
    - can cause major breakouts for people with acne due to the sodium chloride content

    7. Proraso shaving cream
    - a classic
    - coconut oil based
    - takes a little getting used to, to whip up a lather
    - very protective
    - cooling menthol feels nice
    - probably the second most protective below tallow based products
    - cheap and easily available

    8. Classic Shaving brand alum blocks
    - good toner for after shaving
    - don't always have time to use
    - will let you know where your shaving technique needs to be improved
    - not necessary for good shaving, but it's nice to have

    9. Neutrogena Post Shave Lotion
    - HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE BEST widely available mainstream after shave products
    - I personally don't use it anymore because it makes my skin looks greasy (I already have overly active sebaceous glands)

    10. Proraso A/S
    - very good alcohol aftershave
    - smells good and has a very nice cooling menthol that lasts for about an hour

    11. Captains Choice Bay Rum A/S sample
    - everyone recommends this brand as the #1 Bay Rum
    - not as good as my expectations
    - too heavy on the clove (no disrespect to anyone who like Bay Rum, but it's more of an "old man" smell)
    - some of the ingredients in this brand can clog pores and cause pimples
    - ordered the sample size, but will not purchase the full size

    12. Clubman Pinaud styptic liquid
    - a staple in any shaving regimen for cuts and nicks
    - better than the styptic pencil because it's a liquid and easier to apply (works better too)

    13. Bump Eraser spray
    - I have bumps that form on my neck from shaving irritation and some bumps at the back of my head from getting fades
    - works in a few days and the bumps are gone
    - cooling menthol effect

Some other tips that I have come to use:

    - If you are prone to getting acne and pimples after using an oil based or tallow based products, invest in a good scrub. The scrub will help to clear any clogged pores
    - don't use very hot water to create a lather, it breaks down the lather and makes it harder to whip it up

    * will add more if it comes to mind

It works well because it's heat resistant, doesn't feel cheap as plastic, air tight, and you can melt the glycerin soaps and pour it in.

Thanks! I am kind of suspecting the Dovo one I have is not the best straight to have for the long run. I bought it because it was cheap and I can use it while I get my technique down. This was after using the shavette type razor with some Wilkinson and Merkur blades. I am planning on getting one of the two pretty soon:

The Merkur HD is a good razor, but i would go for a Muele de89, they are milder. The blades are good(red persona) but try a sampler pack to see whet is better for you. Also very important to buy a silver tip brush to exfoliate the skin and yo lather the shave cream on...i would by Proraso/Biggelow shave cream from http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/fami...%20cream_Broad

I use an old Depression Glass powder dish, works really well and you're not sending money to China. They are pretty common in antique shops.

Do you need a razor brah?

Art of shaving has some kits. Pre shave. Shave cream. And after shave with a pure badger brush

If you buy their 25 dollar started kit you get a mini size of everything. Even the brush. Then you get a $25 off coupon toward a full size kit. So u can try two of their scents.

Amazon Is where I got my Edwin jagger razor. Good deal and I got some blades with it.

I absolutely LOVE Cella. When I first started wetshaving, I used nothing but Creams and now I cant remember the last time I used a cream. I bought some cella back in february and I only shave twice a week anyways because my beard grows slow and because of my sensitive skin and I have literally used nothing else since then except the occasional AOS Sandlewood and AOS Lavender soaps and it looks like my puck has barley been touched. Also, screw Tabac, I really hate that POS Soap. I never ever got good results from it.

Nope, never had any problem with it. I only soap I found that I was allergic to and had to throw away was Mitchell's wool fat. I bought it, used it once, and had a HORRIBLE allergic reaction to it. My face burned literally nonstop for almost 2 or 3 days and was bright red for that time as well. After that went away, my face started peeling and finally went back to normal. Cella is heaven and is awesome because I use it all the time and It looks like it's barley been used.

thats also a great idea. There's a huge antique mall by me. I like to make my rounds over there looking for shave stuff once in a while. Now I have something else to look for. would be awesome if i could find something like this.

real jade. this is actually on ebay right now, but its BIN for $140. Not really diggin the price. I don't even know how much jade stuff goes for and for all i know this thing could be the size of a baseball and not even be able to hold a puck of soap.

EDIT: the dimensions are 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches. a puck of soap would fit in there. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu I want it

I have a cobalt blue one that I got for free. I started researching the cost and the retail on the damn thing is $800!! I don't think I'd pay $8 for it much less 800. That's probably a decent price for something made of Jade.

Yeah it might be. I know quality jade isn't cheap and they claim the dish is vintage. They have the "Best Offer" option so I threw them an offer of $75 lol. They countered with $125. Should I try and get them down to $100?

ok so I just bought the jade dish on accident.

I resubmitted an offer of $110 and they accepted it. Well, apparently when they accept your offer, you automatically win that item. They should have notification that tells you that the seller accepted your offer and then ask you if you would like to proceed with the purchase. Whatever, I got a new soap dish.

Not upset about the purchase, just had my jimmies rustled a bit on how ebay has this system set up.

They're sneaky cock suckers with their way of doing things. They'd be balls deep in money if they'd be up front with people. When I had an issue, the judge fined the hell out of them and gave me exactly what I was asking. Must be nice to be able to shell out what they did.
