So I don't have a pull-up bar nor can I afford them, and the nearest park with any sort of bar that is useable is pretty far from where I live. I'm wondering if there are any alternative exercises? I can already do some pull-ups. The only thing I've been doing for pull up substitutes lately is I get two chairs, and put my wooden kendo sword across them. I lay on the floor and pull up with my heels on the ground while keeping my back straight. Sometimes I'll put my legs up on the side of the sword where my head is and do a sort of reverse pull up move where I'm pushing my body into the sky, but sometimes in both exercises the sword rolls on me and I fall. Are there any other variants I can do that will give me the same effect as a pull up?
Edit:
Are Inverted Rows a good sub for pull ups? I just realized that my door frame might not be strong enough for a pull up bar... atleast that's what my parents are telling me when I pushed for the idea of a pull up bar.

Not sure where you are looking, but you can find pull-up bars really cheap. Those ones that hang on the door frame are really in-expensive and effective. Even if you buy one second hand, I'm sure it should be affordable. If not, DIY something. I use to use my kids monkey bar section on their swing set. Tons of things around a house you can usually use. Even a clothes line planted in the ground.

Get a job? Find a tree branch? Take that 20$ you probably spend on pot/booze/getting laid one month and get a bar. Or do them at your college's gym. Even most community colleges have a gym with a pullup bar.
I find it incredible that one has access to the internet, yet can't afford or save up for a 30$ pullup bar.

The crappy community college on the east side of Cleveland has a refurbished gym, so I find it very hard to believe that your college doesn't have a gym or anything. Perhaps get your priorities right, like a job and a steady flow of income before worrying about the benefits of doing pull-ups... Not trying to sound like a dick, man, but come on...
