61 pushups @ 190lbs BW (video) Form check please.

Theses are 61 push up reps of me @190lbs (approx.) , they are not in strict form, but can someone tell whether these (or some of them) count for PFT or not, and what the mistakes in the form are ? Also grateful if someone gives a better view of push up standards for the military PFTs (average, 90th percentile, etc...)

(Please put in the dots, Im new so cant post links, www youtube com/watch?v=ZPnl_exJvOQ, or get it from my video page)

    Ahmed,
Seems a little fast, you could probably slow it down a tad bit and focus on contracting and get the same burn from 30-40

Unless you had a very, very lenient drill sergeant, you would not have them counted. at least not hte middle 5 or so I watched.

Your upper arm is supposed to hit parallel to the floor and your are supposed to fully lock out your elbows to be counted as a rep.

Stop letting your head droop down. It is making it hard for you to judge your ROM. You are pulling up very short.

Also, drill sergeants like to see the body be one solid/rigid line. Not like you're performing the worm on a dance floor.

Go deeeeeeeeeeeper, do it slower, make sure that your shoulder blades are squeezed all the time and I strongly recomend to do them on your fists because it puts less stress on ur wrists.

If it were the US Army's APFT and I were your grader, I realistically would not have counted a single one. Every one either didn't have proper depth or didn't lock out, then the ones at the end where you came up in a disjointed manner and broke form to eek it out, would not get counted.

No, your arms were not parallel.

Putting your head down compromised everything.

They mistakenly put forearms, but upper arms at least parallel to the ground:

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Lol if this was the military our whole platoon be doing ****in doing never ending laps because of those fail push-ups O.o......PRIDE SACRIFICES FORM, I would say he could probably do 20 legit ones, and thats pushing it - . -
I have not posted for last 2yrs (July 2010-February 2012). I was tired of being like 90% of all the people that post out of opinions rather than facts. Since that time I have increased my knowledge through research, and I corrected my ego. All my responses may not be 100% accurate, but I can promise you that what I say is not bias and is for your well being above anything else. Rep me if my post helps, not for boosted credibility (that half of people on this site do not deserve).

Until you get the form ingrained in your head, I'd suggest focusing more on doing them a bit slower and correctly. Then work for doing the high rep sets really fast to take care of as many in teh 2 minutes as you can.

Tip: Keep your chin/head up. Look forward. you'll most likely ensure your ROM is correct. If you need, go until you touch your chest lightly to the ground. It'll probably put you just under parallel (so you'll know you are good).

When I was in the Army, the lockout was my worst part. I would lock out, but it wasn't a hard or forceful lockout and I was usually trying to do the reps as fast as possible (like everyone). SOmetimes a strict grader wouldn't count my reps, so I would have to slow down adn forcefully lock my elbows. I hated those times.

For just doing regular push ups, it is probably fine.

But for the Army Physical Fitness Test, it wouldn't pass.

for Marine Corps PFT, they wanted chest to touch a fist placed on the ground...you can use a tennis ball to check depth when you train.

PS - I was ROTC only, not a Marine.

You need one or more of these: more food, more weight, more reps or more rest.

Those push ups were "close enough for government work" in my opinion. Camera angle made it a little hard to judge, but I've never had a PRT (Navy) where those wouldn't have been counted. I prefer to do them by the book, myself, but I've seen sloppier form pass. Normally I'm full of Navy pride, but our attitude about fitness is generally pretty "meh" compared to the Army or Marines. Navy SEALS/Divers/EOD and the likes tend to be a little more detail oriented where these things are concerned, of course, but your typical sailor isn't really built for combat. Air Force has the same attitude as the Navy, from what I can tell.

tuck your elbows towards your sides more. having them flared out like that just puts stress on the shoulder and makes it hard to go below 90 degrees.

You'd be havin the whole Platoon running cause you can't do legit pushups. My advise fix your form before you get to bootcamp.
