    gaining fat...

    To make a long question short...

    What would be the cause of excess fat gain with little to no muscle gain. I am weight training 3-5 times a week using heavy weights with no cardio. My current body fat is already at 17-18% i really do not want to gain anymore fat during my 'bulking stage'. I'm also currently doing intermittent fasting. I'm also only eating excess of 300-400 calories. Should I cut back even more calories?

    I can't figure it out. would lack of water intake minimize my muscle growth? I know I don't drink quite as much water as i should.

    If you were in my shoes, would you stop bulking and cut down to around 12-13% and start over?

    In all honesty, it really depends on your primery goal, do you want to be stronger and bigger first, or look good? Also, if your eating 300-400 kcal above your maintenance, assuming you are doing a good structured training program and no fu*karoundthis, the fat gain should be minimal while you are bulking. The best advice I could give you is for you to find a primery goal first and sick with it until you achieve it.

    IMHO, if your current bodyfat is really bothering you right now, maybe it is ill-advise to start bulking because you won't be ready mentally to gain weight.

    how much weight are you gaining a week? if its half a pound which seems like what your aiming for then thats good, if its more then your eating more than 300 over maintence..

    4. Trying to gain too quickly. It's possible you're gaining muscle, just slower than what you think.
    5. How old are you? Do you have any history of medical issues?
