"I have recently been made aware of two testing failures from our gym, Average Broz Gymnasium.
The first was from an out of competition (OOC) blood test performed February 7th. *Pat Mendes tested positive for elevated levels of Human Growth Hormone (HGH).
The second was an in competition (IC) test performed at the 2012 US Senior Nationals. *Josh Gilbert tested positive for Furosemide (diuretic). *
Both substances are listed as Prohibited Substances on the WADA Prohibited Substance list.
Both Pat and Josh have accepted the provisional suspensions and will comply with any additional measures that are required of them.
We are sorry for any negative attention that this may bring to the sport of Olympic Weightlifting in the USA and we hope for the best from American lifters in the future."
This will affect both the Pan Am and Junior World team. I'm not discussing the substances at all, just notifying everyone of what John Broz has said.

the goheavy.com forum seems to be down at the moment. Interesting that Mendes was in fact positive for something like HGH and not marijuana or some obscure substance from a tainted supplement (my point being this isn't some ticky-tacky violation). I also find this interesting: “This case demonstrates yet again that the hGH test works to stop this dangerous drug from being used in sport,” said USADA CEO Travis T. Tygart. Dangerous? Really?

Just looked over the oly forum rules but didn't see anything mentioned about PED's: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=3535421 (But mods have the final say on anything, so if they say don't talk about it then don't talk about).
The details aren't really what concern me now. The USADA has made their ruling so it's all water under the bridge. Two Broz lifters have been suspended. Rob Addell receives some vindication for his decision to leave before nationals (simply my opinion). And, as others have said, there will be ramifications about who Broz will be able to recruit for his gym nationally with the positive tests attached to his gym (which is unfortunate because I think he's done a lot for the sport in America with limited resources). The pressing question for me is if Broz was aware of what his lifters were doing on the side? That can be a murky plausible deniability area...

stop talking about usage dumbass. I'm going to have to ban you for two weeks.
I guess no one ever updated the oly forum rules specifically, but the "no talking about AAS/PHs/any medication or drug that is not legally OTC" is a forum rule globally, i.e. in any section on bodybuilding.com
Rule: 12.) There is no discussion of illegal or banned substances allowed, period!- This includes but is not limited to, steroids, FDA banned substances( pro hormones), illegal drugs, prescription drugs. If you can’t purchase it over the counter at a store, don’t talk about it here either in posts or PM’s.Last edited by isaku900; 04-16-2012 at 01:29 PM.

Yes, this one will be very difficult to figure out. It may also be difficult to prove things like that Aliens (from either outer space or a foreign country) didn't abduct Mendes and replace his clean blood with tainted blood. Or perhaps Adell in a fit of jealousy snuck into Pat's bedroom at night and injected him without Pat even knowing. I mean he wants to be a doctor after all. We will never know for sure. Until Broz answers it on his youtube page.

now this seems unfair
cant we talk about GH and alike at all? Not as a PEDs but as the natural occuring hormones, its function, metabolites etc which includes its excretion/clearance/elimination and detection in blood and urinary samples.
If this was the case you could probably ban every diabetic talking about insulin (since insulin is also a widely abused substance in sports) and must not allow any talk about widowmaker squats and similar exercises (probably any exercise at all) since they are linked to hormonal responses.

you're taking it a bit far, he was clearly posting regarding injecting a banned substance, and specific usage.
you're not supposed to talk about medication or illegal substances on bb.com.
if you're talking about the minor hormonal response from doing a lot of squats...go for it.*Mods/CS will not, nor can they change your username, so don't ask*

Yes because the hammer (that inevitably was going to fall on that gym at least in the eyes of most people I would consider objective and knowledgeable) was dropped our hopes have been dashed. Except of course that the only place that they were winning competitions and/or lifting at anywhere close to an international level was on youtube.

What I want to know is why Gilbert felt the need to take a diuretic. He was hovering 139-141 lbs in most of his recent videos. Not really much of a cut, more like "barely drink water a day and a half out to make weight". It really asks the question if he was actually using something else... not that I really care too much, but still. I feel that I have busted my ass for a long time only to have my best lifts quickly crushed within a period of 2-3 months (time frame from his 365 lb back to 400 lb front). I'd like to feel that I am a hard working guy... I was lifting every day for hours, squatting a lot, giving it a ton of effort (or what seemed like a lot of effort)... I even suffered two knee tears from lifting and yet still don't even compare to what he's put up recently. Maybe I'm just losing my motivation.
You aren't the most friendly guy, are you?
