Your counter argument will be that "we developed these instincts millions of years ago" yet you can provide no evidence to show why the body hasn't "evolved" over millions of years or realized food is widely available now.

2. vegetables are more available now than ever and maybe the most healthy food we can eat as far as decreasing diseases and disorders yet a majority of people prefer a donut over celery sticks.
3. if we evolved our bodies would realize we no longer required large amounts of calories and recognize large amounts are detrimental to health, in theory if evolution was true we'd actually prefer eating leafs to chocolate, overwhelmingly. If fact if evolution were true it would of prepared us to resist caloric surpluses by making sweet caloric dense foods taste undesirable

Although I haven't spent too much time thinking about evolution due to the mathematical improbabilities and general lack of interest on my part I'll try to answer your question. You seem to be working under the assumption that the body has a mind of its own and that evolution occurs by some directed force. It does not. In theory it occurs as a random mutation or behavioral trait that is beneficial to the organism in some way which enhance its probability of survival. If that organism happens to survive long enough to pass on these beneficial genes then the organisms with this beneficial mutation (which is an oxymoron as far as I know) will thrive more than those who lack it and eventually they will outnumber the lesser fit members of their species. The key here is this mutation is a random event that just happens to help out the organism. There is no guarantee that a member of a species will have a particular "beneficial" mutation when needed. Hence why various species die off.

Personally, I find the lack of evidence in support of evolution disturbing (darthvader.jpg). While it makes a nice and probable story we can only examine a small portion of the past due to the small fraction of bones which become fossilized and which we actually find. Thus to get a representative sample from the past is unlikely. If you do the math the chances of a person developing a mutation that can actually benefit them is extremely remote especially when you consider the small number of humans that live on the planet (the number being smaller as you go back in time). If we were insects we would have a better chance (numerically). Anyways, the willingness of people to wholeheartedly accept most every aspect of it is no more absurd than religious people holding to their biblical stories.

If scientists are having such a difficult time coming to the correct conclusions about things we can directly test and observe (even simple things) what makes you think they can examine a few remnants of the past and come to the correct conclusion? Evolution DOES NOT mean a particular trait is necessary and or beneficial to survival, it simply means that the individuals with said trait were able to reproduce and spread this trait to the next generation. And so on, and so forth.
