Perhaps I should have read the label better -- I just wasn't expecting to have caffeine anhydrous in my whey protein.
I decided to buy a 5lb tub of their chocolate fudge flavor for normal use. Going to save the cafe mocha and its caffeine for occasional early morning and pre-workout use. It's the reformulated flavor, so not sure what to expect.

Supposedly they reformulated to make them taste better. To be honest, I'm not a fan of their flavors compared to Optimum Nutrition... but I can't justify myself spending so much extra cash on ON 100% whey when I will sip it down in a few seconds anyway. I'm hoping that the chocolate fudge flavor will be amazing (it got good reviews), because I am really sick of chocolate mint.

Yup, and supposedly the reformulation also means 100mg caffeine in the cafe mocha flavor, but as far as I can tell, no changes in the macros of the powder.

It was like 35mg of caffeine beforehand though, and I believe that came from the instant coffee, not added caffeine. 35mg is doable. 100mg is not, especially if like me you sometimes take 2-4 servings at once.

As far as the cafe mocha goes, it too has had 100 mg standard for many years now.

Caffeine alone will have a large effect, especially when it's anhydrous. The problem is that the drug's strength is altered when it comes into combination with carbs and fats. If you consume plain black coffee, the caffeine delivery is fast (within 30 minutes and a halflife of 6 hrs), whereas if you have it with milk or that disgusting butter coffee, the uptake of caffeine is slowed down considerably and over a longer time span.

400 mg caffeine in one sitting, likely mixed with milk or other food, isn't a huge issue and I wouldn't worry over it unless you have a serious heart condition. Just an example, but espresso will have less caffeine than drip coffee and drip will have less caffeine (and flavor) than French press. The variables get even more complicated when you take oxidation post roast and general roast concentration, as well as oils secretion into account.

Along with that 2 yo post of mine which I don't remember making because I don't recall being that chipper, ever, is that the flour issue of XT is rather nonexistent in my personal experience. It's a finer particulate protein though.
Interesting, I guess it's just the taste that's changed then... for some reason I thought it previously had like 35mg/serving, but I guess that was just hearsay from a forum. Per the Dymatize website: "Elite Whey Protein is packed with 25 grams of fast-absorbing 100% pure whey protein per serving. Exactly what your body needs to build muscle and recover after rigorous workouts. Elite Whey Protein has been reformulated to deliver an even more decadent taste experience. Now when you finish your workout, your protein isn't just a necessity, it's a reward as well."

As for the caffeine and its metabolism, I know I'm particularly sensitive, especially when it comes to insomnia, which I have a tendency toward anyway. Even a can of coke zero w/ ~45gm caffeine keeps me up at night.

increased carbs, reduced proteins and added a bunch of stuff to make it creamier/thicker based on the reviews.

Mine's still got 3g carb, 1g fiber, 25g protein, 2g fat per serving. Isn't this what the macros previously were? The link you posted refers to the Elite XT, while I'm just referring to the regular Elite Whey Protein.

Fudge brownie is one of the Elite XT flavors though, which I've never had before. I was referring to the reformulation of the regular Elite Whey.

Just to clarify, the "fudge brownie" is one of the Elite XT flavors, while the "chocolate fudge" is one of the regular Elite Whey flavors. For whatever reason, the macros of these two lineups are significantly different. The XT is supposedly "extended release" (contains whey, casein, soy, and egg proteins).

Animal Whey FCB - where's the cinammon? overrated IMO. disappointed with this one.
Animal Whey C&C - not a fan of mix-ins in my protein, so nix on the cookie bits. not much cookie flavour, more creme. reminded me of infant formula. bad.
Animal Whey Salted caramel - sweet, chemical tasting caramel. i would pass on this.
ProSupps PSwhey chocolate brownie - very sweet milky chocolate. sorta like cutler's.
Oh Yea Snickledoodle - very very good. Nice buttery cinnamony goodness.
SAN Ti Whey berry - good. loved to mix this in with my yogurt and to make protein pancakes.
SAN Ti Banana coconut - good. decent balance of coconut and banana. not as chemical tasting as I expected it to be.
BPI ISO peanut butter choco bar - reminded me of DS Sustain. good. mixes decent for an iso.
MRM dutch choco - stay the fuk away from this.
SAN natural whey Chocolate - good. sorta like milo. similar taste to wheysmooth, but less cupcakey
SAN natural whey vanilla - straight up vanilla with a bit of butterscotch. decent.
Cellucor Red Velvet - loved to bake with this. drinking not so much. mixes thick. it's like a sweet plain, slightly buttery chocolate.
Ceullucor Vanilla - reminded me of Scivation's old vanilla. Not too sweet, middle of the road vanilla.

welp, so far I would advise against the Pecan, salted caramel and latte flavours.. really artificial flavour and leaves a strong weird plastic smell in your piss.
