I have'nt had time to watch many of the games but i will watch jeters last match. We just can't hit for nothing. If the other team scores 2 runs or more. It's a struggle.

It still does, not as effectively due to the new signing rules on international free agents, but it can. Yankees lost 80% of their spring training rotation for an average of 4 months. For them to finish with 84 wins despite that breakdown was something else. Shane Greene emerged as a keeper for the Yanks.

It's not the international free agents, it's the fact that teams are locking up their players through their prime years now. The fact that the pitching kept them afloat for so long was nothing short of remarkable. The fact is, even if they had a healthy rotation all year, they'd still have the same problem that killed them - no offense. There's so much dead weight (and payroll) on the roster that I'm scared sh*tless for the next couple of years. Too many holes in the lineup.

C - McCann - Should bounce back, but he's still on the down-side of his career
1B - Teixeira - Huge injury risk, horrible production this years
2B - Prado - Should be solid for the next couple of years
3B - ARod - Hasn't played in a year. Injury risk
SS - ?
LF - Gardner - Solid
CF - Ellsbury - Should be solid for the next couple of years. Dead weight after that
RF - Beltran - Hopefully he'll be better after the surgery but he's gonna be 38.

There's not a single impact bat in that lineup. Beltran/Arod/Teixeira will all have to spend significant time at DH. There's nobody out there in the free agent market that can fix the Yankees problems. You can sign Hanley but that's going to be more of the same. Maybe take a shot at Tomas and stick him in RF and make Beltran a full-time DH but he's nothing more than a question mark at this point.

I'm always extremely optimistic about the Yankees chances but I'm afraid this might get ugly.

I heard today A-Rod most likely will be playing DH or **Possibly** 1B, since Tex is a porcelain doll.... and good point about players getting locked up early, it's not as easy as waiting till a player on the A's comes due for a contract and we snatch em up.... we basically have to settle for players on the latter end of their career or a middle age player you have to take a massive gamble on....

This. Still remember his first season. And Bernie Williams' first season too. Highlight of my youth was seeing Don Mattingly hit a homer at the old Yankee stadium for my birthday during his final season. Damn I'm getting old..

I was saying during the season Long needed to go, when nobody can hit all year, the hitting coach gotsssssssssssssssssss to go.... I imagine tho if we go one more year without making the playoffs Girardi and/or Cashman get fired (even tho I don't think it was Girardi's fault), you also have to factor in injuries over the last 2 years....
