thats like a 6000 size. should be fine for 20lb floro. most people these days would fill a reel like that with 50lb braid and then use a mono/floro leader or top shot. floro is expensive and braid lasts forever essentially. which is why its nice to fill it with braid then use a floro leader.

Going to Florida to snook fish this month it looks like. My buddy has had them down there to 40lb.
Could you? Yes. Should you? No, probably not. The guides aren’t right for it and it won’t cast for ****. When I started out I used those red shimano rods from Walmart, super cheap and work well enough on the small fish.
Big fish I’m using 9-11ft rods rated from like 1-6 oz depending on the rod.MFC

Billfish categories are still wide open. 74 lbs is the largest white and no blues weighed. There is a pretty big bigeye leading the tuna at 201, a huge mako at 277, and an 81lb wahoo that is almost sure to hold, but the money categories are still there for the taking.

My apartment complex has a problem with invasive earthworms eating the roots of the trees. Going to see if I can get a bunch of these bad boys for bait.

chit the ones around here that grow in and around potting soil are legit snakes. They shimmer hues of green, blue, red, and have great action in addition to being a big target.
As a kid I'd find em so big under cinderblocks and rocks so big they'd be too hard to pull outta the ground and get away.
Among giant grubs and other things like nearby crawfish and huge grasshoppers that ate in corn fields.
Until I find something live that works better than hellgrammites in the guadalupe, its what I use. I angle 90% of the time with plastics though.
Live baits like 'well we are drunk af and dont wanna cast $50 lures into coverage sooo...'

Holy crap. These are the invasive kind we have here: https://blog.nature.org/science/2016...you-dont-know/
I went outside and got about a dozen of them. They are strange. They break apart in your hand when you grab them and kind of "bead up" like dying worms do (although they're alive). I suspect they break apart as a survival mechanism. They're about the size of regular redworms. Going to use them for panfish bait and see if they work. If so, I will have free bait at least! I don't think they'll live long in a container of dirt, but I shall find out.
Also went outside and got about a dozen nightcrawlers last night. Made some bedding out of wet cut up newspaper. They seem to like it{Misc Fisherman Crew}

been a minute since i posted anything. nothing too spectacular but this year has been tough for me and my friends.
got this on a jackall kaera. tossed it right in her fry and she gobbled it.
this chunky monkey on a jackhammer. decent bass has eluded me all year round. im still on the hunt for a 5+ and hoping the fall bite will be better than this summer.

How do you like those Jackal frogs? I have been eyeing them up but haven't pulled the trigger.
The fall bite will be your best bet at a 5+ for sure. All the fish are eating up for the freeze over. Hate when the fall rolls around because it means the open water season is almost over, but also love it for the fact that the bigs are the easiest to catch at this time too.Tolerance and apathy are the last virtues of a dying society. ~ Aristotle

Spent 3 days fishing lake of the woods in Ontario. Was the hottest week of the year so far which made muskie fishing tough. Boated 2 small muskies, had lots of lazy follows (saw some giant fish), and lost one big one at the boat (upper 40's). Managed to catch a few nice pike, 39, 37, 35. Was a fun trip overall.

Got 2nd place yesterday....super disappointing because I lost by .04 ounces
Win some lose some. I’ve got a pretty good lead on AOY just gotta focus on a decent limit at the last event in September.Last edited by FingerNailsBrah; 08-20-2019 at 02:31 PM.

Damn dude, that sucks. So close. But at least you got 2nd place, which ain't too shabby.
I haven't been out much lately. I made it out Thursday, but I've had some issues getting to water:
1. The road to my two favorite trout streams is under construction
2. The other trout streams are too overgrown with weeds. Literally, the grass is over the river so you can't even cast.
3. There's been festivals and such on the way to my bluegill spot, which means it's about an hour drive due to traffic.
Hoping to make it out this week. Thankfully, it rained a lot so I was able to replenish my nightcrawler supply and should be good for the rest of the year now. Up to about 7 dozen of them.{Misc Fisherman Crew}
