The grainy look is what it is refered to, and the trick is getting your CENSORED perfect... most IFBB guys can't dial them in this perfect consistently. Dorian Yates was one of the few really big guys who could. Completely about fluid balance. However yes, this guy looks extremely impressive.
Not sure where I want to be in terms of phyisque as an ideal goal right now. Somewhere between Reg Park and Arnold with a little more thigh. I do not want the super-shreaded grainy look as I can't maintain it, which means it is just illusion not my day to day physique.Last edited by JasonDB; 03-04-2012 at 09:43 PM.

I just couldn't be content with that level of muscle, no matter how lean or aesthetic. Even at 55 or 60 years old I really and truely hope I am not that frail looking. (100% srs)... I actually have a hangup about looking frail/weak or being frail/weak. It scares the **** out of me. Losing all my strength when really sick a couple years back was one of my worst nightmares come true.
Physique like that when I see them I do not consider that they might workout... all I see is a coke or cancer/aids ridden body or a concentration camp victom.... just skin and bones.... and I weep a little on the inside imagining starving down like that.Last edited by JasonDB; 03-04-2012 at 10:26 PM.

I have legit muscle dysmorphia. To me that guy looks very similar to concentration camp victoms from the holocaust maybe 3-5 lbs difference. I can't actually help it, that is what I perceive by default and have to actually stop and use a logic process to convince my brain he has a normal amount of muscle mass, but if I stop focusing on that 5 seconds later he will look like he is wasting away from cancer again.
My fear of weakness stems from my childhood abuse. Earning two black belts then later doing bodybuilding was theraputic in removing my feelings of weakness and creating a sense of personal empowerment.

This. The guy looks like a normal personal who is in shape. Not having 40-50 lbs of extra muscle on your body =/= weak and frail.

I thought he looked like a twig too - but on closer examination it's not too bad.
He doesn't even look like he's been in a gym once let alone works out regularly....you could have that physique with little to no effort bro - go get it!www.xccellence.com

Medialis = inner, lateralis = outer
Overloading the quads is going to work best....I have (used to be better ) a decent sweep (vastus lateralis) and what worked for me was pre exhausting with leg extensions and then moving on to weighted walking lunges, hacks and very high rep close stance leg press like 20-30 reps a set....pick a weight you can get 15 for and then do breathing reps to the end of the set. Even forced leg press reps help.
Squats for me have always been ham and glute dominant so I don't do them to focus on quads.www.xccellence.com

I'm not sure on the % thing...but 60 sounds a bit low. I never thought of hands on knees for forced reps but that could work, I always just grab someone to move the sled. 20-30 might be overkill but legs are a weird muscle, I've never felt that I did too much for them like I do sometimes with upper body.
The restpause/breathing reps technique is really really effective....and will create some iron balls when it comes to training, so much pain. Though of course squats should be pretty staple....I always liked training quads on their own day and then having a hamstring/squat focus day where I also hit quads.www.xccellence.com
