My wife just called me and said she's thinking of buying a $900 Louis Vuitton bag for her best friend (who is very materialistic). We do have some savings now, but she said that she can stop her student loan payment (~$1k per month) for 2 months to pay for it. She's a year 2 medical surgery resident now, and will be a doctor in the future, and she said these two months of loans will not make too much of a difference. To make the sell to me easier, she said she will not buy her anymore gifts for the next 4 years. I basically told her it's a ridiculous idea. I can understand spending that amount on a family member, or a friend in need. But to buy a $900 bag for her stay-at-home mom friend is simply ridiculous.
Thoughts?

Sounds like you married the wrong bish (srs)
That's a pretty big red flag. Sounds like your wife expects a rich lifestyle."Why do people insist on creating things that will inevitably be destroyed? Why do people cling to life, knowing that they must someday die? ...Knowing that none of it will have meant anything once they do?"

As smart as your girlfriend may be, and this may be a generalization (albeit a true one), but women are bad with finances. They are driven by impulses, so for her the fact that she can make her besties day/week/month by buying her some useless, overly branded status symbol that the women probably doesn't have the wardrobe to support (brb wearing a pair of sweats & my louie bag to Dunkin' Donuts), seems like a good idea. They will also likely have a falling out in the not too distant future, leaving you to have an ear full about much your wife regrets ever getting that bish the bag in the first place.

OP, your wife is clearly retarded and should be banned form practicing medicine.
Also, if she thinks she can give one really nice present, and then skip four years of gifts without her friend getting mad at her, she is wrong. A woman will get mad if you skip getting them a present on their birthday. Even if you give them a car or a mansion one year. She's not skipping 4 years of gifts. She's lying. If she skips even one year of presents they will not be friends anymore, and she'll have an enemy with a $900 bag.^^^()()GERMANIC CREW()()^^^

Exactly what I told her.
My wife's not materialistic, but her friend is. It's just that being in a resident program soaks up so much of your time, and my wife didn't have an opportunity to sit down and think what to get for her best friend, and she's desperate and thought of the bag as she knew her friend will like it.My Saltwater Reef Aquarium website: www.Reeftology.com
