    which macronutrients help you sleep?

basically my bedtime snack consists of protein shake 140cals

    2 pieces of bread = 140 cals

    = 280 cals

thinking of adding some fat, 15 peanuts = 80 cals

does protein help sleep? or is will it keep me up?

tonight prolly gonna do protein shake + nuts + 1 or 2 slices of bread

    good nights sleep crew

I drink a casein protein shake before bed, just because it helps me not waking up during the night because I am hungry.

this is often different for different people, but if u take melatonin or drink chamamele tea (probably spelled that wrong) that should help. most people would say carbs make them sleepy, but thats usually just if they eat a ****load and get a sluggish feeling from having eaten too much.

I've heard a couple times it's a myth that turkey makes people sleepy. Here's something on the subject I pulled up: http://chemistry.about.com/od/holida...iredturkey.htm

"It's worth noting that other foods contain as much or more tryptophan than turkey (0.333 g of tryptophan per 100 gram edible portion), including chicken (0.292 g of tryptophan per 100 gram edible portion), pork, and cheese. As with turkey, other amino acids are present in these foods besides tryptophan, so they don't make you sleepy. " It's probably the ceremonial gluttony and overeating that is thanksgiving that creates the sleepiness and the turkey is simply an association. A pretty good example that correlation is not causation actually.

This is win. Unfortunately I'm no longer able to use these "macros" to help me sleep =P Fortunately, now that I've kicked these I can actually get REAL sleep as apposed to having insomnia and having to induce it haha ^_^

well your before bed meal should be calculated towards your daily food goals for the day, and if you leave enough room in your diet for a balanced meal before bed you will sleep just fine. Personally i like to have a moderate amount of protein, carbs and fat before bed

You're mistaken. That one size fits all advice does not work for plenty of people. Someone just commented four posts above yours that he can't sleep if he eats close to bed time and he's far from alone.
