    Sports and Bodybuilding together...

I bet most of you are into bodybuilding and some kind of sport(tennis/badminton/racquetball/football/soccer) at the same time. I go to the gym 4x days a week and I play around 4-5 hours of rigorous badminton on the other 2 days.

I have been feeling intense pain in my lower and upper bicep region (right hand) due to mixing these two things. Lifting weights makes my muscles really stiff and badminton requires hell lot of flexibility, fast movements and jerks. I assume that this is being kinda counter productive and that's the reason why I've been feeling the pain in my right bicep.

Do you guys experience something of this sort too? If yes, how do you handle it? Just reduce the frequency of workouts/sport activities or take some recovery supplement [if there' any]?

There is really no good way of saying this...so I'll just say it.

STRETCHING. You are doing it wrong.

Proper stretching involves two phases. Dynamic stretching and static stretching. Before you play, consider getting lose with dynamic stretching, then proceed to do the old fashioned static stretching.

Sounds like possible tendonitis. Ice and rest. How dare me post a serious response. Although I do wanna see video of rigourous badminton. Having a hard time picturing it. How fast of a stroke do you use when smacking your shuttlecock?

the only way badminton would be cool is if you were playing it with like a live hand grenade and if it dropped on your side then it exploded

    squash is suprisingly badass though

The German guy was once the #1 player in the world. To the untrained eye, there's so much more going on as there's so much topspin and sidespin the camera can't capture. Here's a small demonstration:

That's incredible! He must have a real nice paddle and a perfect technique. My favorite move is to undercut the ball. If you do it hard enough the other guy tends to hit it into the net, especially if he tries to slam it with topspin. I use similar spin moves when I play tennis.

I hear ya man. May want to try an upper arm band, can find sometimes at walmart, cvs, rite aid, etc:

Or can try a compression shirt, under armor, nike, etc. Just make sure it is tight enough, and preferably long sleeve.

Stop lifting 4x a week? 1-2x a week of relatively heavy compounds should be enough, especially if you're also working on sports. In your case, weightlifting needs to be done to improve your sport; you can't expect to be the best weightlifter and the best badminton player; however, you can achieve both goals if you train smart, but it'll take quite some time.

Just make sure to greatly reduce your training volume and listen to your body, lest you acquire a serious injury.
If you have any question regarding health, fitness, nutrition, or anything else (really, ANYthing), feel free to PM me.

    Lots more stretching OP.

Unless you have some kind of tendon aggravation, there's no reason you can't do both together.

As I'm sure's probably the case with the NFL etc in the US, in Australia Rugby league, Rugby Union and Aussie Rules players spend a lot of time during the week lifting on top of lots of fitness & agility training and playing the season games every week, and they seem to manage it (it obviously helps when they have good resources on hand in terms of physios etc).
You'll have to speak up, I'm wearing a towel.

I would say don't train to hard in the gym if you do sports because it's just to hard to go all out the night before a game and then expect to be 100% and not be sore. I remember when I used to golf and we had a 12hr tourny and I did heavy high rep sqauts the night before. Lets just leave it at never again....
    Current /Goal C/ Goal B/ Goal A
    Bench- 205/225/275/441
    Squat- unk./300/375/471
    Deadlift- 300/400/681
    Body Weight- 155/175/200

    What I stared at:
    Bench- 100-110
    Squat- 125
    Deadlift- 145
    Body Weight- 138
