How about the fact that married people people are, on average, healthier than their single counterparts?

    I'd choose LOVE.. But......

I'd tell the wife I love her so much that I have to hit the gym or my heart will burst into pieces.
    This above all..
    To thine ownself be true..
And it must follow, as the night the day..
Thou can'st not then be false to any man..

Plus, I don't deal well with ultimatums.
    I couldn't agree more.
A huge part of the success of my marriage is that we have always given each other the space to be ourselves.
My sweet little wife, God bless her, has a self-confessed lazy streak a mile wide. I mean this only when it comes to exercise.
She hates it..but will try to do it just because I beg her to be conscious of her health for all of us.
When I was an avid skier, she wasn't. I love surfing..she could care less.
She totally loves and respects the fact that these things are important to me.
She never asks questions about any of the things that I enjoy doing because she loves me.
I really like your point CC about ownership versus relationship.
I see this with some of my friends and acquaintances and I don't know how anyone could deal with being a slave to someones neediness.

My first husband gave me an ultimatum when I decided I wanted to start competing. There was absolutely no compromise and I divorced him.

What's up with that?! People who love you should be happy about what makes you happy, up to the point where the person is totally obsessed with something and they neglect other important areas of their life (e.g., career, family). Otherwise, support them, even if you don't understand.

I choose health. I spent 15 years with an evil, manipulative bitch who hated everything I did that did not revolve around her.

Exactly. Then there's this; they do get some benefit from it, no? "Gee honey, when we're "tripping the light fantastic" do you want to reach down and sink your hands into my soft, flabby ass or do you want to grab a hold of my rounded rock hard buttocks?"

You've just described the ideal mate, David. Unfortunately, they are few and far between. Consider yourself lucky if you have such a wife or husband!

Well first off I do not believe my wife would ever make that utimatum, but if she did I would choose her! We have been married for twenty four years and I have known her since the first grade. She has stuck with me through the good and the bad, the poor and not so poor, the skinny, the fat, and the in shape. She is also the mother of my only child. She is my best friend and hunting and fishing buddy. So yes I choose her!
Truth is heavy, so few men carry it.
