Good point. While inflation and raw material cost hikes are the primary reasons for today's price's, protein is as advanced as ever too. Lot's of R&D costs involved.
Notice beef is up around 50% just in the last 2 years? Corn prices are way up. Things are just getting much more expensive. Cheap food is going to be a thing of the past.

i have drastically lowered my intake of whey in the last year due to pricing. What i do now is search all internet sites and all brick and mortar stores for clearance and close date products and I pretty much buy whatever i can find and try and limit myself to no more than 2 shakes per day.

Well protein prices do go up because of the supply and demand market. Protein is a basic and at times attractive supplement that people would get off the shelves out of initiative. No need for rep/sales talk. Bought off the shelves like a staple.
And yep, sad to say companies do take advantage and just jack up the prices and blame "inflation". The thing people are doing now is to look for other better prices brands. Thats the best way to handle it because prices do go back down, or great offers are bound to arise to get customers coming back again.

Supply and demand is a small part of it. Two other HUGE contributing factors are the major food brands that are now "adding" protein to their products and can buy in larger bulk, keeping THEIR prices down but making the more niche market (bodybuilding supplement) brands pay a higher price. That, and the giant leap in gas prices. It all has to be transported and the companies pay twice as much in gas to transport it now as they did 3 or 4 years ago. That's a huge part of the price increase.
