Hey everyone! Most of you know I work in an extremely busy clinic with a nursing staff of 5 that work the floor (I'm one of those 5) and another that takes triage calls .... today, with an extremely full load of patients and 3 docs in clinic, the triage nurse and I are the only ones here. Everyone else is either sick or has a sick child they're home with. Even our on-call team can't come in. I am the only one working the floor and I actually felt so overwhelmed that I started crying in the bathroom and shaking ... and crying ... oh, and I did mange to go to the bathroom since that was my original intent in going in there and I knew if I didn't take the opportunity I would just have to pee my pants and that's not at all a good look..........anyhoo ... one of my sweet docs ordered some lunch for me and Mr. Bossman just ran out to get it. But, I'm smiling now and getting through the day and not trying to hurry too much because I'm dealing with some critical care issues and if people have to wait ... so be it. (do I sound convincing?!!)
{{{smooches}}} Be back one of these days if I'm still alive by the end of the working day (which will truly be around 8pm)
Thanks for everyone's "atta Swoosh" at my great feats of strength which promptly hit a giant wall during yesterday's workout and Professor Ham and Spanky have promptly ordered me on a deload .... and prescribed a large, loaded pizza and a long snooze on the couch .....Caring about what people think of you is useless. Most people don't even know what they think of themselves.

Hang in there swooshie. I understand the nursing/ems life, so I can sympathize. Luckily, it sounds like you have some good docs to work for. Also, remember that you are only one person and can only do the best you can do (I've had to tell this to my RN sister on numerous occasions. A hard lesson I had to learn a few years ago).
And, there's no crying in amazon land. just sayin' ;-)"There's something about a heavy weight that makes a body not want to get under it. Part of the fun of weightlifting is rousing one's spirit and getting under a heavy weight in spite of one's more sensible survival instincts." -Stenn

Oh man, M ... was wishing I had you on speed dial! The responsibility of it all was so overwhelming for a few minutes, but 20 years experience has its benefits in situations like that. More about my day below!
I am sooooooooooo not a crier! I never have/never will cry on the floor and I got over it quickly and kicked my Amazon azz into gear and slapped myself in the face a few times and ... game on!
Thanks, M!
Massage ..... I need a massage!
Hiya Meg! I do work for awesome docs and I've been there for a long time, so I'm thankful they are so caring and understanding, because I've worked with some real pissazz ones before when I was working at the hospital.
That's totally what I did ... rationalized and prioritized and kept smiling and stayed calm and focused. One step at a time, right!
Awe ... Red! That meant a lot to me. <3 Your kind words really helped me get through my day. Sincere thanks.
Thanks, drea! I slept long and hard last night ... exhausted!Caring about what people think of you is useless. Most people don't even know what they think of themselves.

Hiya B Kept singing our "I love my job" song
LOL! Spanky is my bb.com (and real life) psychotherapist!! He's good at it too. I bounce a lot of issues off on him because it's nice to get a guys perspective on certain things and he always gives me good advice. But I probably do work out more then he does!
Thanks for your support, Josh!
I know you know the feeling! Slept like a rock last night .... makes for a much better day!
Thank you my Geek friend xoxoxo
Yep! Not much else you can do cept "keep calm and carry on"
I'm not at all one to cry. I'll get raging "rip your face off" pissed long before I will cry ... but I was in the bathroom and the only face in there to rip off was mine and that would have been bad
You're never a bad friend! Thanks, PSSCaring about what people think of you is useless. Most people don't even know what they think of themselves.

I Lived and so did everyone else!!
Thank you all so very much for your support and encouragement yesterday. You have no idea how many times I read your comments on my cell phone yesterday and how much it truly helped. Love you guys!!!
After my little bathroom meltdown, the day was crazy but it went as well as it could have gone, all things considered. I have a lot of experience (20 odd years) and I can honestly say, that and being in pretty good physical shape helped a lot. I have a new coworker who I'm training that keeps "reminding" me that she has 3 years experience and I just want to scream at her that that is nothing!!! In this field you can never think that you know everything, because you don't and you never will .... nothing, n o t h i n g, is ever textbook. The thing that felt so overwhelming initially was that not only am I taking care of the patient in front of me, but I'm also taking care of an unborn baby. Working in OB for this long, I have certainly seen my share of bad outcomes. I know that when things start going wrong in obstetrics, they can progress from bad to worse to tragic in a very short amount of time. I never, ever want there to be a bad outcome because I missed something. Part of my job is to monitor and assess unborn babies (some high risk to boot) and that is something I am absolutely never willing to compromise because people are getting grumpy in the waiting room, or we are short staffed or whatever. That baby is my only concern at that moment.
I only had one rude patient the entire day and the front office staff really stepped up to the plate helping me with phone calls and paperwork and keeping waiting patients happy. I'm going to make them homemade cinnamon rolls to take in on Monday to say thanks. I think I took care of about 50 patients yesterday and had 3 hours of paperwork and charting to do after the last one left. I think I did a good job. I stayed happy and funny and everyone received good care. I even watered all of the plants before I left
I'm taking a little lifting break until Monday. I haven't lifted since Thursday, which was a god awful lifting day. This past week my recovery has been slow, I hadn't been sleeping well at all and my hipfuk was screaming at me. I could also tell my CNS was in full blown overdrive, so per Professor Ham and Spanky, time to deload. I'll see how I feel in the gym on Monday, but I may drop my weights down for the week.
Thanks again everyone! You all kept me going <3Caring about what people think of you is useless. Most people don't even know what they think of themselves.
