Anyone ever done anything like this?

My neighbor signed up. A coworker (out of shape guy) wants to do it with me.
I think it looks like fun, but I never run. I might have to do a little running to work up to it so I'm not a total wreck after the races. What do you think?

I'm considering signing up for the one in IL in June. I never run either. The 3 mile run doesn't sound like fun, but everything else does!

I do cardio. But I'm a biker, not a runner. I could work up to a 5k run pretty quickly, I'm sure.
I believe the entire course is 5k, including the obstacles. I don't know that you do much continuous running, other than between obstacles.
It'll also give me the chance to do some running in my Vibram Five Fingers.

My avatar is from the last Warrior Dash I did. I'll be doing another in mid summer... good times!
First, this isn't a 5k. The event we went to (myself and two co-workers) was SUPER muddy. You couldn't run through about 70% of it because it was 18" of mud. That might sound nice, but it was FAR more tiring to walk through miles of deep mud than to run. The obstacles don't pose much of a challenge, really. They create a bit of a bottle neck, in which you will spend some time standing about watching others negotiate their way through. Overall, it was fun. Fun enough that I'm going back for a second try... but it isn't anything like most people imagine. Hard to explain, but it is more like playground time with a bunch of adults than a race. People go in costumes, some "run" the whole thing in truly un-athletic footwear (think wingtip dress shoes). At the end they take donations of all the muddy shoes, clean them up, and donate them. Good charity, but I wouldn't bother wearing any truly nice shoes (5 fingers included), as you are just as likely to lose them in some mud hole as make it to the end in them. I would say I saw a pretty good number of people with one shoe on at the end of the race.
I'm also planning on doing this: http://runforyourlives.com/
As an avid zombie movie fan, this sounds way more fun than the Warrior Dash. Plus I already have my furry viking helmet swag, and how many of those can one man really keep?
Have fun with it, and you will love it!GoRuck Challenge Journal: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=150446113

I've ran two and they are a lot of fun.
Here are some suggestions.
Have fun.
Bring money for the big turkey leg and beer
Bring a towel and a change of clothes for the way home
Wear old shoes and donate them (bring a pair to wear home)
Bring antibacteria wipes. You will be going through the same mud that 1000+ other people have. Any nicks you might get should be cleaned afterwards.
The two I ran one had a fire hose that they used to spray you off when you finished, the other just had a pond that you coud wash off in.

Warrior dash is brutal, but loads of fun. Lots of injuries too. Buddy of mine does them every year, and is in the best shape of anyone I know. He's a Firefighter, personal trainer, and does triathlons etc. He broke his ankle two years ago and not sure he wants to do them anymore.
Just train right for it. Mass wil work against you in almost everything in it.One party system; Most Republicans are Democrats, but no Democrats are Republicans.
