    Optimal protein intake.

Ian says you don't need more than 1g/lb of BW where as Lyle says you can receive small benefits from an intake of 1.5/lb of BW. What do Nmisc?

    http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/mus...-mistakes.html <<< Lyle

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TKQo...F-zc6V5S828BJ9 <<< Ian

Edit I probably should have mentioned that I'm about to go on a bulk. Intake is going to be around 6-7000 Kcal. Lyle's article says you don't need as much protein when you have a high intake, this is why I was wondering.

1.3-1.7g/lb ... Have gone 2g/lb on a number of occasions (not lately/regularly though)

I like protein, don't care about 'optimal' nor if I could 'get away with less' .. Plus, I figure it's better to err on the more can't hurt here.

I get at least 1g per lb. Go over most days because I enjoy chicken/steak/pork etc. Also blunts hunger more effectively during a cut.

When I wasn't cutting, easily over 1g/lb but that's based off of Lyle's article on "strength and power athletes."
“Go back?" he thought. "No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!" So up he got, and trotted along with his little sword held in front of him and one hand feeling the wall, and his heart all of a patter and a pitter.”

Considering your calorie intake, I'll assume you're bulking - in which case what would be considered "sufficient protein" is actually lower compared to cutting. In other words - you don't need 275g of protein considering your energy intake.

    But whatever you like, bro.

I typically go with 250-275 grams a day. That's in the 1.0 to 1.5g per lb. Eating more carbs makes me bloat like a mofo so I just don't do it.

Have you tried consistently keeping your carbs up? It took me about 6-8 weeks to lose bloat after upping to 450g carbs per day.

I'm never under 1g per lb, but hardly ever go over 1.5 per lb. Usually around 250g per day.

OP, WTF do you do during the day to need such a high cal intake?

Honestly, no I haven't. After 3 days of bloating I was like "**** this" and just up'd protein. More satisfying IMO so I just go with it.

Too much emphasis put on "standards" and not on "personal preference". People need to remember that everyone is going to react differently to different approaches and that they should try as many as possible to find what works best for them.

Naw, my job is pretty much 8 hours of walking around and lifting boxes anywhere from 20-70lbs and I don't slack in the gym. Sleep is from 9:50am - 5:30pm (I work graveyards)

Do whatever floats your boat bro. All I'm saying is that energy intake is protein sparing and considering you will be in a caloric surplus there is no need to keep it that high. Your body isn't going to make better gains because you juice up the protein. Once you reach physiological sufficiency there isn't any real benefits to be had (other than anecdotal claims like better recovery).

Myron, when I graduate in march I will probably get a job as a luggage hauler at Sea-tac airport in Seattle until I find a real job, so my intake is gonna go way up as well.

I was calculating all the glycogen & water weight I'll have with that high of a CHO intake, which in fact will probably be closer to 10-15lbs, I'll be around 220-230. I did also state that my average intake for the first month would be around that, if you read back.

1g/lb BW in almost all scenarios. Once my carbs get down to 150g or less (usually the tail end of a cut), protein will increase.
