    Weight Bench

I'm looking to get a weight bench, I've just started to do free weights and want a bench so I can progress. Price is no issue.

    1) powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/bodymax-cf520-elite-folding-standard-olympic-bench.php

    2) powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/marcy-bruce-lee-signature-mid-width-bench.php#

    3) fitness-superstore.co.uk/weight_bench_with_weights/powertec_olympic_workbench_with_145kg_olympic_weig ht_set/13548_p.html

    4) purefitnessandsports.co.uk/strength-training/weight-benches/keys-fitness-adjustable-olympic-weight-bench-light-commercial-p-2219.html

I like number 2 as it has all the attachments but all the others to be of better quality. What do you guys think?
    (open to any other suggestions)

Well, from what I see those are not just benches so I would not recommend any. I would recommend a power rack and either adjustable or flat bench.

This is just an example. Everything may be a lot more where you are but this place seems extremely high. Here in the states I bought this setup (used but like new) in a better brand for about $250.

the marcy stuff i see in person is neither as well made as a decent brand nor do they mention a weight rating, which is a dead giveaway. having lots more pieces like in number 2 isn't a plus when they're not strong or comfortable, nor do they work all that well.

marcy and golds gym are made by icon, and they all have weight rating, which is alot better for the safe of mind than some of the name brand that doesn't (trust me, like 50% of the name brand stuff doesn't even have safety weight rating, I've looked)... the cheapo brand on the other hand is on the low end of the rating, many utility bench are in the 250 pounds, and if you get lucky then it's 300 or 400... most of the combo bench are 300... and some are 410... in my experience the cheapo stuff will take 400 easily regardless of the rating...

check out tuff stuff's bench, very expensive well known brand, rate at only 200-250 pounds for utility bench.

one of the golds gym, the xrs 20 is rated at 610 pounds, I've looked it it myself, very nice big set of bench + squat rack...the metal is a little thin but over all it's not bad for like 160 ish new.

i didn't see a rating on the page for the marcy bench that the op listed, nor do i see weight ratings for marcy benches on amazon or on the impex-fitness website. here's a couple examples from the impex/marcy website that show no weight ratings
    impex-fitness.com/proddetail.asp?linenumber=388
    impex-fitness.com/proddetail.asp?linenumber=206

dunno about the particular tuff stuff's bench you refer to as most of the benches on their site are rated for 800 pounds except for the ab benches. when i say decent brands, i mean brands that deliver. the benches i've been looking at tend to range from 600 pounds to 1000 pounds - brands include hoist fitness (check the hf4165), body solid, bodycraft, ironmaster (some don't like it, but the super bench is rated for 1000 pounds), and powertec fitness, at the lower end, rated at 600 pounds. there's lots of other brands if you do a search.

you have to go download the manual, it's stated in there.

there's a few of the older tuff stuff bench that's rated at only 200-250, there's another thread on this forum about it, I'm sure it can carry more, but it's just really annoying to know that your bench is only rated at 200 pounds.

at the same time, all the brands that's 1K pounds + rated are quite a bit more to get than the cheapo stuff...

i also made a mistake, marcy stuff is made by impex, weider and golds gym are made by icon... sorry about that.

It doesn't matter who makes them, Marcy, Weider and Gold's brand products are garbage.

For me its between these two

    1) fitness-superstore.co.uk/barbell_benches/powertec_workbench_olympic_bench_2011/13506_p.html

    2) powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/bodymax-cf520-elite-folding-standard-olympic-bench.php

They both seem to be of great quality

Will you always have a training partner to spot you?

Neither of these benches will allow you to bench press safely alone. Neither of them will allow you to squat safely either.

What would allow me to bench safely without a spotter?
