While tribulus terrestis has been shown to elevate DHEA levels, there is only one herbal that has been proven to elevate testosterone level, eurycoma longifolia by scientific name. The root is extremely popular as aphrodisiac in Malaysia where it is called tongkat ali, and in Indonesia where it goes by the name of pasak bumi. One can check independent scientific articles on eurycoma longifolia at the Medline library at Infotrieve.com.
I don't know if the increase in testosterone is significant to produce increase in muscle mass but there are several reports that claim increased aggresion!
Pasak bumi is a herbal medication (Jamu) widely used in Indonesia as an aphrodisiac for men. In Malaysia, the same medication is know as tongkat ali (Ali's stick).
Even though it is largely unknown in the US and Europe, the pro-sexual effect of pasak bumi is actually well documented in Western science!!
I haven't tried this yet. It will probably be crap but anyway, it may be better that tribulus (which is crap).
Best luck to everyone..

Parrot it is here finally!!!
Looks like the have caught on to this herb and we'll have a few products containing it within the month.
Bob Fritz creator of Endocre3 came out with Muscle Jack that contains the herb in question ( eurycoma longifolia jack ) I guess he is the first.
You can get the herb online from herbalpowers.com or doublehappiness.com. AJ

Pasak bumi/Tongkat Ali - I've heard of this b4 when I lived in Msia. It has a very good reputation among herbal practitioners. Its use skyrocketted when viagra was just invented but was yet unavailable. I read an study extract about Tongkat Ali done in Msia on rats and it sounded pretty good.
Theres lots of drinks/extracts sold which are totally useless since they don't contain enough active ingredient...
IMO this natural herb won't make it big since no company can patent and make big bucks off it (unless they synthesize it, switch a few molecules around and call it a new substance).

? I just went to Pub Med (includes Medline). I found no studies proving the stuff increases <u>testosterone levels</u> at all.
What I did find was a series of studies done by a set of researchers at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Penang, Malaysia, and nothing else relevant.
The closest thing I saw to proof of effectiveness was a study that showed increases in rat levator ani muscle size in rats given various extracts of the herb ... which does indicate androgenicity of the extracts. I found no studies where any hormone levels were measured at all, though. As to the androgenicity, one can't tell if the extracts stimulate <u>natural test production</u> or if they simply <u>contain an androgenic chemical</u>.
The lead scientist, a Dr. HH Ang, started out working with a Dr. KL Chan, trying to prove the herbs' effectiveness as an antimalarial, in the early 90's. Dr. Chan continues to this day to publish regarding it's antimalarial properties as well as its "anti-tumor promoting" effects. Dr. Ang went on to explore its aphrodisiac properties, publishing a series of similar studies on the sexual behavior of rats exposed to various extracts of the plant, from the mid 90s through late 2001.
One thing that bugs me is that it seems that Dr. Ang is very interested in proving the validity of its use as an aphrodisiac, rather than maintaining appropriate scientific objectivity. Each of the study abstracts ends with a very broad conclusion similar to this (which is from the levator ani muscle study):
<i>"Hence, the pro-androgenic effect as shown by this study further supported the traditional use of this plant as an aphrodisiac."</i>
So, one researcher in Malaysia has published a few studies, none of which measured testosterone or other androgen levels. Their best relevant study, also the most recent relative to aphrodisiac or androgenic effects, published in October 2001, did show androgenicity of various extracts.
I'm still left asking:
1. With lots of folks taking the stuff, why has nobody measured their testosterone levels?
2. Why is only one researcher (and their staff) interested in doing any studies of it in the first place, and why haven't they done anything with it in well over a year?
While it definitely sounds interesting, I'm not ready to go out and drop much money on a product yet.Last edited by DaddyR; 02-19-2003 at 01:42 PM.

I have tried it a few times. There was one company that imported it that I liked a lot. The couple of others I didn't notice anything. I did not have test levels analyzed so I can't say for sure how it well it worked but I do feel it definitely has merit, based on how I felt and my gains when taking it.
For the most part it has not been available in the U.S. until now. You could occasionally find a few places to get it, but the quality was highly suspect.
My personal view is a rather stout opinion: I think it will be right there along side tribulus for bodybuilding effects once more quality companies catch on.
I personally don't use biotest because I just never really got much benefit out of their products and so I would not be surprised if their version is not as effective as some others.
beyond a century has it now for pretty cheap and I think they are a very good quality company. So it might be worth a try without much financial sacrifice.

Has anyone else tried Titan-Muscle from Atlas Herbal Supplements? It's supposed to be a herbal testosterone booster. I am using it so I can keep my muscle while losing fat and it seems to help a lot. Plus, I'm a whole lot hornier now too. My lifts are getting heavier quickly too. The ingredients on the bottle are:
Gouania polygama
Paulinia pinnata
Chiococca alba
Smilax
Dioscorea
Zingiber zerumbet
Any scientists on this board?

Increase testoserone by stimulating brain?
Hi
I read theres a product which stimulates a gland in your brain to stimulate your body to produce more testosterone. Thus, it will not shrink your balls as they are the ones that are stimulated to produce the testosterone. This is different from testosterone patches which work by adding testosterone ( not made by your body). This product also claims that since the testosterone is made by your body, it will not convert to estrogen hence you will not get titties.
Is there any truth in it? The product is an Asian plant called Eurycoma Longifolia.

Someone on the Internet is conducting an empirical test of Eurycoma Longifolia [aka Tongkat Ali].
Here is the site:
http://www.testingtongkatali.com/
Also:

If you participate in the study, you can get up to a year's supply of 1:35 or 1:50 extract from a high-end foreign supplier.

Herbal Powers . com carries this in many forms. Also MuscleJack has some and RedKat Biotest was going to contain it, I think.
Herbal Powers is very good though. Good luck and stay health.
LJ-100 is a 100:1 extract and the El Jack is just 2:1 extract. They have raw powders of different extraction ratios.
Worth a look if you're really interested!Last edited by AJRodz; 08-08-2003 at 08:06 AM.

I tried the LongJax brand from BAC. It's a 20:1 extract powder. I didn't notice any effects - positive or negative - after using this stuff for a month.
I may try a 50:1 extract from- http://www.tongkatali.org/
This is the stuff recommended at yohimbe.org
