    Marine Corps Pull-Up Bar (original)

    Marine Corps Pull-Up Bar (original)

I had a chance to try Marine Corps Pull-Up Bar at one of their recruiting events few months back. I prefer doing pull-ups, chin-ups and muscle-ups without bending my knees. Most of the commercial bars are designed to fit inside of rooms with 8' ceilings. After gymnastic rings, Marine Corps Pull-Up Bar comes close second in my list of the free-hanging fitness equipment because it lets me do all the above mentioned moves freely and it's well constructed. It's 92" high and has a footprint of just 48" X 48". Another huge advantage of it is the fact that it's portable despite being heavy duty.

After the event I was able to take thorough pictures and measurements before they were gone. For all of you, DIYers, I am releasing these pictures and my drawings with the measurements. Btw, I've searched internet and could find anything about Marine Corps Pull-Up Bar except for the youtube videos of people doing pull-ups on it. Looks like this thread is gonna be the first detailed review of it. I am breaking it up into 4 posts as I have 20 pictures and the forum lets me show only 6 per post. Bear with me. I'll also release pdf version of it.

The bar itself is 1" 1/4 in diameter.

Can't upload pdf file as forum states it's too large. It's just 3.67 mb. Too bad.

Here are some videos of this model being used:

Nice, but... it still wobbles in the videos. Isn't the best pullup bar one that doesn't move?

True, if you are looking to a portable one these are really good plans.

Not sure if I would do a muscle up on it though

Hi, guys! I got banned for spamming. That's the reason I was given. I've sent the admin an email telling him that I've never spammed. Three weeks have passed and still no reply. I won't be participating in this forum anymore. I am thinking about starting a new bb forum where users can share info without weird admin quirks.

Seriously. Spam can mean different things, but bottom line is if you aren't providing something new and relevant, you're going to get dinged.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

    Dinged maybe, but banned?

I went through the most recent two pages of Russca's posting history. He posted some good stuff to this subforum. I didn't see anything that should've gotten him banned.

You should be able to buy the steel and have it welded up.
I don't think they are for sale.

If you google portable pullup bar I'm sure you will find companys selling them, this Thread is more about DIY

Does it stable enough to do ab whiper and hanging leg raise ? (with the leg thrusting up above version NOT the "hip flexor" version)

Looks good! Better than any pull up bar I've ever used in the Corps at least. These are usually stationed all around the base held down by sand bags and tore up. Don't feel to good on the hands in the winter though lol

I updated my supply list, I haven't built it but made a list figureing how much materials I would need to get. It sucks that I would have to buy a 12 ft square bar for 76 I priced a 32 inch square bar and it was 62 cut so I might as well get 12 ft.

    I would paint it.

Hi, guys! Just stopping by to share some info.

I found out the company that manufactures the above marine pull-up bar. I called them and got a quote. The bar goes for $498. With carton box and sales tax it ends up being around $550. Shipped by freight. Add $200-300 for that. Not sure if they ship overseas though. They customize upon request (paint color, height, ect). The lady I talked to was very nice. I think her name was Shawna.

Here is their contact information (I don't think they have a website):

    American Machining & Mfg Co.
    Varnville, SC 29944
    (803) 943-2129

P.S. If you are planning to buy the bar, consider also Tactical Athlete Pull-up bar. According to their webstore the price is $439.95 plus shipping.
    http://www.tacticalathlete.com/store...iew_product=29

The height of this bar can be adjusted from 65" to 107" whereas the marine pull up bar is 96" stock.

To me the marine pull-up bar look sturdier and more heavy-duty. The tactical athlete bar is more versatile, can fit in 8' cealing houses or be used by really tall guys in gym/outdoor environment.

    Good luck!

    Russ

As far as know it's manufactured by Legend Fitness for Tactical Athlete Co. Gotta be solid. Nevertheless judging from pictures it doesn't look as sturdy and heavy duty as the Marine Pull Up bar (material used and design itself), at least to my eyes.

Thanks for the great info. It looks similar to the one made by Torque Athletic for $475:

4' x 4' is alot of space for a one purpose item.

$475 for the torque...one could get a more comprehensive piece for that price, such as the rogue S2 and still have some portability.
