do you think its possible i could slide a pipe over the end or get a longer metal sleeve that hangs over the end of the pipe and tightens on the 1inch portion?
or maybe a slightly larger pipe over the 1inch one, and then layers of pipes to equal in the end 2 inches?
as far as a sleeve goes:

i will have 2 extra of these but they are plastic. don't really feel comfortable hanging plates off it with nothing supporting the plastic. i would otherwise. maybe i can get a pipe that fits over the bar will also fit in the plastic olympic sleeve. i have no problem finding a work around. the plastic sleeve is fine for this purpose. its just for weights to sit on. i have them on my calf machine but that bar extends out fully the entire length.
this is the machine i have:

got them to do 250 shipped. not really sure how i convinced them but they agreed .

I bought the exact same sleeves from the same seller. They are not plastic, but metal. The picture on seller's page is not the actual item. I used these sleeves in my leg extension/curl machine conversion project. Pics and video are below. I'd try them first on your tibia dorsi machine before resorting to other options.
P.S. Matrix, I won't be here much. I just stopped by to share info on the pull-up bar manufacturer.Last edited by Jetigen; 11-29-2012 at 10:18 AM.

I saw one appear on my local Craigslist last year, though the asking price was something like $300, which seemed ridiculous given its clearly very used status. I have no idea about the quality, but you can get a version of this for $190 delivered from Amazon/barbells4me.

Just a thought... would sitting on something high and letting your legs dangle with say ab straps slung over your feet with weight attached work as a substitute? The motion of lifting with the top of your feet seems similar, unless I have the mechanics of the actual machine wrong...

There are a lot of substitutes, these among others:
- Put your heels on a step or calf block and just hold a weight plate or plates balanced on your foot.
- Hold a dumbbell between your feet with your heels at the edge of your bench.
- Put your toes through a stirrup-style attachment for a low row.
- Homemade DARD (you can find directions online).
I've tried all of these other than the DARD. They all sort of work. I liked balancing a plate on my foot the best.
I haven't tried it with my dip belt, which is basically what you're saying I think, but it might work fine as well.
