    iifym and eating clean some what go hand and hand. you got to somewhat eat clean to hit macros

    i mean you could eat chocolate and drink whey all day but that's not really practical, your gonna feel ****ty and hungry all day. if you want to fit your macros and feel somewhat good and energized you are going to have to eat moderately clean.

    the people who ask questions like that are usually eating "clean" foods for all their meals anyway and usually ask some redundant question such as "peanut butter, is it good on a cut?".

    The addition disclaimers are there for people that dont understand "moderation" "whole foods" "processed foods" "micronutrients" etc.

    Okay, a little history lesson because you didn't follow the Nutrition boards about a year ago, when this all sprang up.

    Way back when, there were a lot of "can I eat X" posts. Like, a lot. Around this time, I posted regularly along with WonderPug and ErickStevens, both of whom supplied credible evidence vouching for the quantity approach to macros rather than the quality.

    Both of these guys at first (and others like us) made semi-detailed points to explain why a fat is a fat and a carb is a carb, which I'm inclined to believe you agree with. However, the idiotic posts kept coming, and they got tired of preaching paragraph after paragraph. So they cleverly dubbed IIFYM their diet philosophy. Now - the original incarnation of the philosophy (it is not a specific diet, mind you) was that there is always "wiggle room" in a macronutrient plan for preference foods. This is what had been explained over and over. Naturally, people get jaded about repeating themselves, so they simplify the idea down to the "you can eat whatever you want as long as it fits your macros" moniker, which is technically true. Macronutrient content in foods will not affect body composition so long as proper numbers are maintained.

    Of course, this in its simplest form sounds exactly like "eat whatever you want" - what happens in mass psychology when such a good thing springs up? It's bastardized and taken to both extremes. Pro-IIFYM camps are just as idiotic as anti-IIFYM, and the guys who started it just sit around like da **** is going on.

    IIFYM. Most people think that people on an IIFYM diet eat nothing but poptart and hamburgers.
    Although they CAN, I doubt most people WOULD.

    This applies especially during a cut, like I'm right now.
    I can only eat 1900 calories a day, doing IIFYM.
    Am I eating poptarts and ice creams? NO.
    Why? Because its not filling, so thats why I eat my Fiberous "clean" food.

    People need to get the idea that IIFYM doesn't automatically mean that person is eating 5 poptarts a day.
    Although they certainly can, I doubt many people would actually like that.

    This is the problem with IIFYM. I can eat pizza and protein shakes and more or less hit my macros every day

    But at one point my body composition would suffer because I would be dead because 12lbs of sh*t would collect inside of my intestines which due to the lack of fiber in my diet I couldnt excrete

    to clarify:

    IIFYM means eating clean, hitting your allotted protein, carbs, fats, and if you have calories left over, you can eat what you want until you reach that amount of calories.

    IIFYM does not mean eating **** and getting your fats and carbs from oreos.

    so you're supporting the 'clean eating' bandwagon?
    or just that you must fit you macro's + micro's?

    Don't get me wrong, the majority of my diet is considered 'clean' by most, consisting of wholegrain rolled oats, nuts, fruits, and meat. however i won't hesitate at all to add some nutella, ice cream, or chocolate to the mix as long as it fits.
    always take my fishoils + multi's.

    i'm just interested in what your 'diet' approach is.
