Very sad to hear of this news. I pray for his family during this time of grief. It is already in the newspaper but no funeral home info. Let me know when you get things straightened out.

I really don't know what to say in this thread. Honestly, I've kind of been avoiding this. Joey and I have text(ed) back and forth for a couple years now, but I haven't been around these boards much, and subsequently lost touch to some extent. My first communication with Joey outside the forum was via text; I got his number from Josh (Illa), and sent him a picture message of Vince Goodrum, just for the lulz. He had no idea that it was me sending the picture, but immediately replied to my text with "I don't know who sent me this but I think I'm in love." Another one of my favorite messages was from him was during the slim xtreme fiasco; we talked about how we should come out with a secret "BROline nitrate analogue." Luckily, my phone stores texts into perpetuity, so I still have every message the guy ever sent me. He was equally as funny, but even more intelligent, off these boards. Truly, he was a brilliant individual.
Two weeks ago, I logged onto BB.com to send him a PM. I received some stuff in the mail about an upcoming open house at BU (Boston University), and have been thinking about throwing in an application. Joey, for years now, has been talking about how he wanted to spend a couple years in Boston while getting his MBA. His top choices for business schools in Boston: MIT, and Harvard. BU had been a backup plan in case he was rejected from the list of top schools he had chosen (Northwestern, Penn, NYU, Yale... all the top schools). Anyhow, I let him know about the open house in case he was still thinking about applying, and was actually kind of itching to meet up with him in person, if he was going to attend. Before sending him the message, I hit up the old CP to check my reps, and noticed he (placebro) had left me a rep comment on a post I made to PinchTheBear. The comment read "who the **** are you". My comment to Pinch was about capital markets, not something I normally talk about here, which explained the rep comment. So as I send him the message, I told him that prior to studying bio, I had already got my bachelors in economics, and that whenever I visit the board I generally check for posts by PinchTheBear, because he too is an econ and science guy. Except, I told him that I stalk the kid because I'm a raging ****. He sent me an email in response to my PM. Here's what he said:

Hey Chris,
Thanks for the message. Yeah, I'm working on my Economics degree now. Figured it was better than doing nothing school-wise while waiting to submit b school apps. I love it. Not sure what I want to do - just want to be paid well haha. I like management and analyzing troubled situations and figuring out and implementing difficult solutions. In truth, I'd love to be a CEO for a huge company but it seems selfish to even type such a thing.
I too stalk Andy like a deranged ****phile, so there's no shame in that.
Since most of the top flight schools have an October due date for first round submissions, I had already decided to wait until next year anyway.
I've selected 18 schools to apply to (figuring, hey, one has to accept me). To make it an even 20, I added two schools as "safety schools." One is BU - I consider that the ambitious safety school because it's not too much of a drop down from the elite and if all of them reject me BU probably will too. The other is Rutgers, which is several notches down but it's where a girl works who I've dated on and off for seven years and it will signal to me it's time to settle down and start a family.
In other words, yeah, BU is on my radar and if you held a gun to my head and told me I could either be accepted into the BU MBA program today or go through all of the stress and headache and hassle (and expense!) of applying to all of the elite schools and maybe having one accept me? I'd take the BU acceptance and skip everything else.
Joey
To find out that he was murdered four days after sending that message, completely got the best of me. I had never met him in real life, but couldn't stop thinking about how unfair this is. Joey had so much that he was looking forward to; work, school, relationships... a guy with nothing but success ahead of him. Words can't describe how much this should not of happened to him. Literally, he was just around the corner from having everything life could've offered.
I try to think about what he would've asked us to do in the event of him passing so early. The only thing that I can even think of... is that he probably would've wanted us to post pictures of women with large breasts, always make fun of Ross, and share witty jokes with each other. I can't help but smile and laugh to myself about all the funny things we were all told by Placebro.
Joey, you will be missed immensely.
PS - how many of you never knew his name wasn't "Mark" until this thread - LOL!

I remember talking to George (Free Weight) when he was a mod, who was complaining over all the things Joey had stirred up with fitnessman. I guess laughing about it is more appropriate than complaining. George is a loud talker, from Jersey, so try and replicate the conversation using your imagination:
George: yeah, that f*ckin mark. I mean, I agree with him, but these stupid rules... f*ckin fitnessman is ready to just ban everyone
Me: Funny story, his real name's actually Joey. Guy's hilarious.
George: What the f*ck? It is?!!? Why was his username Mark? Why doesn't he say something when everyone calls him Mark?
Me: Not a f*cking clue man
George: aaaahahahahaha!
Placebro/mark247/Joey was always a man of mystery, to most people. He was just a fantastic communicator.

Answered.
Mario - You've made this thread much better. Tell Luigi the rigatoni was a tad al dente for my taste.

Thanks for posting those screen shots. People should realize Joey was just as funny off the boards as he was on. The intellect, honesty, and sincerity were unmatched. The generosity that this board has shown after his passing is evidence that even those who did not know him as well as they may have wanted to, still get the feeling that he would have done the same for any of us had we died tragically.

OMG.... I can't believe this happened to Joey. I wish I had a chance to know him outside of the forums. He was such a brilliant individual, who called it like it was.
Such a tragedy. You will be missed immensely.
My condolences/prayers to all that were close to him.~

I have dated our (joey and mine) texts back to our first one back in june of 09. I'll post a few up, especially when we found out about the emoji icons for the iphone
According to a guesstimate based on at&t, I'd say over those 28 months, joey and I had over 2,000 texts. These will be my fondest memories.
I spoke with his girl and the story and the screenshots of his frantic texts to her will be posted. The state police are trying to call this a suicide, which is absolute bs."What value is there in the grace that I profess if it leaves me unchanged?"
