Well I'm doing rippetoe's starting strength right now and I was wondering what would be the best replacement workout for squats? I live too far from any gyms with racks and I won't have a rack of my own for a few months most likely.

Zercher squat (start from a rack or from the ground) are really cool. They hurt your arm, but if you roll a towel around the bar, it hurts a lot less. After squatting with 200 lbs in your arm, any girls seem like a feather haha.
Hack squat work fine too.
Of course, nothing is better than a real back squat. But zercher and hack squat could be a good substitute since its possible to lift quite heavy that way.☆ ☆ QUEBEC CREW ☆ ☆

Power clean the weight up and then do front squats.

First, my point was he's not completely SOL because he doesn't have access to a leg press...
Second, SS is 3x5 not 5x5.
Lastly he said he has a bench press with stands connected to it. Likely he could use those to start a set of front or zercher squats. Hack squats begin from the floor so those are also a good option. Not only that but zercher squats can easily be started from the floor as well if he needed to do that.
