i get rolls with raw fish in them - not fake sushi rolls like california/boston/eastern etc that doesn't have raw fish - except i love the futo maki roll lol love pickled stuff
anyway it's 6 pieces for $2.50. if some of you are in the NYC area... maybe not manhattan but in the outer boroughs, i'll recommend a few
also, the AYCE places, they have more rice to meat ratio whereas the half off places i go to is the other way around. if i was paying more for rice rather than the meat inside, i would never go back to that place. the only reason why i keep going to the AYCE places is because they have a lot of other things (restaurants like Ichi Umi, Makkoli, Minado's etc). compare the photo below with the photo above
lastly, cut me some slack guys lol i've only been on the forum for a year now so i didnt know how big of eaters bb.com-ers are when it came to sushi haha
here's a picture i posted some time ago
the top roll isn't a cali roll - cali rolls are just crabmeat stick and avocado and sometimes another filler. i would never eat at that place again if my rolls came out like the picture you posted lolLast edited by dailob; 09-27-2013 at 09:01 AM.

lol yeah i wouldnt eat at a place like that either, unless it was like part of a bento box or something then its ok imo. But unfortunately alot of sushi places here in cali (in my area) pass that off as sushi. it was honestly the only pic that i could find that had some of the smaller maki rolls with a larger roll next to it for a size comparison. now you mention it, looks like a philidelphia roll (atleast here in cali). i'm not really a sushi expert by anymeans but generally in my area people consider rolls like this the norm (pic taken from a local place yelp page) and these run roughly 10$ ish

So I got a call from one of the challenges I've done here and they are having an event called champion of the champions
They are getting the 11 people (out of over 1000 - awesome success rate right?) to come back and compete against each other in a new harder challenge (they haven't stated what exactly yet). There's some Aprilla scooter as a prize too
Here's a random photo of some people trying the original challenge

My question is whether the food was quality or not. I've had some good Fish & Chips here, but I've also had some bad ones. They seem to be consistently better (overall) in Europe. I think I'd have trouble eating a lackluster preparation in that quantity, because in my opinion Fish & Chips done poorly is just baaaaad.

Thanks brother. Was actually thinking of you after I completed the challenge. Thought about asking for another one TBH. (Still was hungry afterwards..lol)
Fries were 2lbs, Cod was 2lbs and the peas were 1lb I believe. loled. Looking forward to TONS more in 2014
would go back every night for a free meal.
The Fish = amazing quite honestly I've never had better battered fish before in my entire life.
The fries and peas.... = a WAY different story. Soggy fries FTL and I hate peas. (washed them down with ketchup lol)

Blech. Yeah, this if often the case at many establishments I've eaten at, especially when the fries are with fish. More places need to start beer-battering the fries. It may just be my own personal experience, but I've never had soggy beer-battered fries in my life. They're always perfectly crisp.
Those just look like...peas. Fish and chips is supposed to be served with mushy peas, which are kind of like a pastier pea soup. I don't much care for a bowl of raw peas, though I have no issue with having peas as a small portion of another dish like fried rice. The mushy peas I had in Ireland were good though..."Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius."
