strong reading comprehension. What I was saying is that seeing as lifting is both a physical and MENTAL game, if you have a doubt in yourself, that could basically blow your chances in the lift because you unconsciously talk yourself out of it before even doing it. if you have a spotter, it may give you that extra smidgen of confidence that you need to do the lift.
This is all personal preference, (ie, some people such as yourself mightfeel more confident without a spot while others feel they need a spot)AAU World SJ Powerlifting Champion, 2014

I comprehended exactly what you meant. My positions stands. If you need someone else to give you that extra bit of confidence to lift a weight then you need to get the phuck out of the gym and only return when your ready to kill the weights yourself. Yes using a spotter can be helpful if trying a 1rm on bench or taking a set to failure etc. etc. but that's it. A spotter IMO should not give you even a smidgen of confidence to lift a weight. THAT should be all you.

Whenever I fail i just reverse direction until the bar sits lightly on the safety bars. I hate having a spotter for squatting. Feels uncomfortable man.

Respected by who? People in the MEN thread? Retards who use the worthless supplements he promotes? come on be realistic.
Plus taking a cheap shot at someone negligent to accept science when presented to them is not really a cheap shot but a statement of fact regarding their stupidity. The same way many people on here take cheap shots at synthetic. The same way people take cheap shots at Rugger etc. etc. They can be good posters but regardless of what they post they are still known as a crappy posters.

Positive. I don't know what it is. No matter what they will not go 180 degrees. I feel like if I try to push it there I'll snap my arm in half. My right arm is actually more so inflexible. If I put my hand on my lower back palm out and go up, it only gets about halfway up. I don't know if it's a deformity or I was just cursed. But will work hard on it. You're a great help

Only lift I want a spot on is the bench. In my opinion, unless you dont haves rack, the only lift that needs a spot. A good hand off makes or breaks a bench. But I still never have a spot. I go in with the mentality that I'd rather **** out my spleen than miss a lift. I think it was Coan who said missing lifts isn't for outside of competitions.
“Go back?" he thought. "No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!" So up he got, and trotted along with his little sword held in front of him and one hand feeling the wall, and his heart all of a patter and a pitter.”

There are many reasons for a spotter as shown below:
While i respect your decision, that is your personal prefrence, I enjoy a spotter especially for bench lift offs and if I do want to attempt something I am striving to achieve for.
Yes my goal is to break my previous best and thats my intention when lifting. I guess I don't take my lifting serious to try and beat my previous best and build my physique for the next time I step on stage. That is the idea behind bodybuilding correct?
True, I rather have someone behind me just incase than to cause a scene and dump the weight.
Welcome to the internet.
Injury x1000000. Not only on bench but squat as well. Going for a ME lift and coming down awkwardly could put me out for a long time rather than having someone behind you to support your lift if you do happen to fail.
"Better safe than sorry" I would rather have a spot than blow out of my knee from failing on a lift and be out for months or even a year depending on the severity.

He is a respected poster by multiple people throughout this forum. He gives stand-up advice and has never once pushed anything he reps on me or have I seen him push it on anyone else. Read some of the logs he posts in, his posts are filled with encouragement and suggestions. TBH, IDGAF what company he works for, because he is a good guy. Maybe you should get off your high horse and realize people will do things different than you.
If you need someone else to give you that extra bit of confidence to lift a weight then you need to get the phuck out of the gym and only return when your ready to kill the weights yourself
BTW, I never use a spotter, but I see nothing wrong with someone else doing it.

Agree, this girl below is someone who i trained with quite often when I was in college. While it may be weird to spot a girl on squatting/benching it also depends on how serious they are related to lifting. The girl has a passion for the sport and is looking to compete in the future so she takes her lifting pretty serious, so in the end we were both there pushing each other to improve every session.
We are very good friends, never dated, we keep in touch daily. I live a few hours from here, so a long term thing would probably not work well both being in education as our major's and if we had to reloacte dealing with getting a job.Last edited by The Solution; 12-11-2011 at 01:53 PM.
