    Nasm fns

Anyone hear about NASM's new certification? Fitness Nutrition Specialist. I think it's only 250 or 350 but if you're certified by NASM they take 50 off of that. It won't be available until the end of Sept. I think I'm doing it for sure. I'm still debating if I want to get a exercise related or nutrition degree so this might help me decide. Plus, adding an extra cert. for pretty cheap and maybe learning a thing or two can't hurt.

if you go for a nutrition degree then maybe....if you're nasm certified and it counts towards a lot of ceu it may be worth looking into but even after taking that course you can't write out diets for anyone so in my eyes it doesn't really have much return on the value. Yes it'd be interesting and helpful but professionally if you can't write out diet plans with it, what good does it do.

It would prepare you for the nutrition degree.....i'd wait and decide whether you wanna go the exercise route or the nutrition route.....theres so much available knowledge out there i think its best to do one or the other. If you're a trainer partner up with a registered dietician and vice versa.

Im doing it for sure , I will give a breakdown on it when I get deep into it. I just like learning so I do any certification I can until I open my gym soon. NASM said you have 1 year to complete it so it seems pretty long, but I already have a strong nutritional background and 3 NASM certifications so I should complete it pretty fast to report back.

Also it is completely online , no physical book. Which is a let down , I plan on having a book shelf of certification books in my office for reference.

jones & bartlett nutrition fourth edition
listed on amazon and a few others

the program is based off the knowledge in this book, much better to have on hand than the e-resource

Agreed all around, I take my CPT exam in 3 hours, assuming I pass this one is probably next.

That'll be against State Laws. Only registered dietitians are legally allowed to prescribe meal plans and instruct their clients exactly what to eat. On the other hand, PTs or nutritionists can only work their ways around this policy and "recommend" their clients what to eat. These recommendations and suggestions are also based off diet plans customized by registered dietitians or by the legal government health authorities.
IIFYM - Try to get most of your macros from whole foods. They are high in micronutrients and are needed to maintain overall health

Exactly where is the line drawn between "recommending" and "instructing" clients what to eat?
